2022-01-06 05:20:36 Why is the sunset red?

Red light has a longer wavelength than blue light.

This means that when the sun sets and is low on the horizon, the sunlight has to pass through more atmosphere than it does when the sun is directly overhead.

As the sun sets we see red, orange and yellow light because the blue light has been filtered out by the thicker layer of atmosphere.

2022-01-02 03:46:42 How does Quartz clock works?

In a quartz clock, the quartz crystal functions similar to a heartbeat.

The battery supplies energy to the quartz and causes it to vibrate at a specific rate.

A microchip processes the vibrations and produces one pulse of electricity for each second of vibration.

The electrical energy from the vibrating quartz is converted into mechanical energy by an electric stepping motor.

The mechanical energy drives movement in the gears of the clock.

As the gears turn, they move the hands to reflect a change in the time.

2022-01-01 09:36:21 How does digital camera works?

A digital camera takes light and focuses it via the lens onto a sensor made out of silicon.

It is made up of a grid of tiny photosites that are sensitive to light.

Each photosite is usually called a pixel, a contraction of "picture element".

There are millions of these individual pixels in the sensor of a DSLR camera.

2021-12-31 05:01:56 Why Do Some Fruits and Vegetables Have Such Strong Smells?

Fruits and vegetables have evolved to attract the animals that are their primary means of spreading their seeds.

Lots of chemicals work together to create an aroma.

The most important ones in fruits and vegetables are esters, which tend to give off a sweet and fruity smell; sulfur compounds, which you find in pungent vegetables like arugula and broccoli.

2021-12-30 11:20:46 Why does it always rain in England?

According to the Met office, our location could be to blame.

The UK sits in the mid-latitudes, where cold air from the poles meets warm air from the tropics, and has the Atlantic on one side and the large landmass of continental Europe on the other, causing weather that is highly variable.

How many colors of blood do animals have?

The color of blood depends on different chemicals that special proteins of the blood contain. Because some of the chemicals change color while reacting with oxygen, the color of blood is revealed when oxygenated.
We know at least 5 colors of blood running through blood vessels of various animals.

1) Red. Most vertebrates including humans have red blood because of the iron in our plasma.

2) Yellow. Beetles, sea squirts and cucumbers have yellow blood because of vanabin, containing vanadium and the functional aim of which is still unknown.

3) Green. Many annelids like leeches, marine and segmented worms, have chlorocruorin in their blood that turns green when exposed to oxygen.

4) Blue. Spiders, crustaceans, octopuses and squids, mollusks have copper in their blood, which in reaction with oxygen becomes blue.

5) Purple. To transport oxygen brachiopods and some worms use hemerythrin, which, when oxygenated, turns violet-pink.

2021-12-26 17:41:11 What happens if we pour cold Water on the hot Engine?

Consider what happens if you suddenly cool a very hot, brittle material, such as cast iron, and to a lesser extent, aluminum. A metal alloy when heated expands evenly and upon cooling contracts evenly; however, this sudden and uneven contraction of that material will cause it to fracture.

In the case of a motorcycle engine which is usually not a very big one, can result in a having cracked block.

Which will eventually result in a hefty engine replacement?

When you throw water on a hot engine, you can see water vaporize quickly.

That is because the water absorbs the heat from the outer surface of the crankcase while the inner temperature of the engine remains high.

So it makes a huge variation of temperature in the same area of the crankcase.

Moreover, the water doesn’t even absorb the temperature from the whole surface evenly but only from the areas where the water came in direct contact.

So this huge discrimination of temperature on the crankcase makes the engine go through a situation called a “Thermal Shock.”

Now there are chances that some of you might argue that you’ve been doing this practice for long now and your bike completely runs okay. Then to those people, I would say that it’s not your luck but the material used to make these engines instead.

Their building material is resilient enough to deal with such malpractice from time to time.

But as with all the things in this world, there is an end for everything and one day when you’ll put cold water on the engine on the bike it will be the last time.

2021-12-26 04:15:29 Why is colour of Milk white ?

The color white is nature's light buffet, in that it results from all the wavelengths of visible light being reflected into the eye.

Casein and certain fats reflect wide ranges of wavelengths, causing milk to appear white.

Caseins are one of the main types of protein in milk which cluster together with calcium and phosphate to form tiny particles called micelles. When light hits these casein micelles it causes the light to refract and scatter resulting in milk appearing white.
