Date - 3rd Feb 2022
Slot – 2
WAT topic – What measures do you follow to stay calm under pressure. (20 mins, 500 words max)
Interview Panel - 2 female professors (P1 and P2), did not introduce themselves.
Group - 4 guys, Myself (ops and SCM), one B com fresher (M1, fin), An engineer with digital marketing work ex (M2, marketing), and another engineer with 20 months work ex in core ops (M3 ops and SCM)
Profile – Instrumentation and Control Engineering graduate, 31 months of work ex as a system engineer at a leading, fortune 500 process automation solutions vendor.
P1 – Open question to all, tell me about yourselves, we were told to keep it to a minute, going in alphabetical order of names.
P1 to M3 – Asked about his stint as an ops engineer, went into the details, and asked him to explain his role. P2 (probably an Ops prof) asked more about how he calculated and defined process efficiency. He then was asked about a few operations terminologies such as cycle time. Was asked to define and formulate throughput time. In the end, he was asked why he switched to a marketing role recently and if he thinks his interest still lies in Ops and SCM.
P1 to M2 – the interview focused more on his second job in digital marketing. A mismatch was found in the job description he specified in the application form and in what he described as his job responsibilities. P1 seemed visibly shocked by this. Asked more about his work ex and enquired about which sector his firm focuses on and how they have managed to increase sales for the customers.
P2 to M2 - including his role, what ways they incorporate to get more data from surveys, parameters based on which a method was deemed the best for the marketing campaign in the healthcare sector. He then was asked about a few digital marketing terminologies such as ratings and rankings, etc.
P2 to M1 – Asked about his field of interest in finance. Was asked general stuff on M&A. Asked about the difference between merger and acquisition. Was asked if he invested in stocks or an IPO. He said Nykaa, and P1 asked what potential he saw in Nykaa.
P1 to M1 – Why Nykaa and not invest in Policybazaar IPO. Asked fairly basic scenario-based questions on investment decisions, if he was the CFO of a big firm.
P1 to me – Asked in detail about my job responsibilities, asked to be very specific about my day-to-day work only, not of my team/organization. Walked them through each phase of the projects we undertake and specified my role. P1 seemed convinced. Again, asked to explain my work with an example of a process. I explained with an example of oil and gas subsea operation processes. Asked if I was involved in the testing and commissioning phase of the project as well.
P2 to me – Tell me about any one of the latest trends and technology in process automation. Explained about Industry 4.0 and Industrial IoT. Was grilled on the operational efficiency part a little, asked to define and provide a relevant example. Then was asked about a few more terms from ops which I couldn’t answer, and at the end asked if I have been to an actual site/plant, as a part of my job responsibility.
P2 then came back to M3 for a formula he was asked to recollect/formulate. This concluded the interview.
Overall, not a stress interview, but not a complete chill one as well. Both professors did not smile throughout the GI. The interview generally revolves around your work ex and the fields associated. Keep yourself updated with the latest trends and technology developments in your field. Practice WAT writing at least a couple of times beforehand.
