FMD Mukta Bharat (FMD Free India)
Seeking to end Foot & Mouth Disease (FMD)
Agriculture ministry conceived a ‘FMD Mukta Bharat’ (FMD Free India) program to cover all the states.
16 states and 1 UT are yet to be covered under intensive FMD vaccination.
‘Foot and Mouth Disease Control Program (FMD - CP) ’ is under implementation since 10th Plan Period.
About Foot- and- mouth disease:
An infectious and sometimes fatal viral disease that affects cloven - hoofed animals, including domestic and wild bovines.
Highly infectious
Susceptible animals include cattle, water buffalo, sheep, goats, pigs, antelope, deer, and bison.
The virus responsible for the disease is a picornavirus, prototypic member of the genus Aphthovirus.
Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY)
It is a national mission to improve farm productivity and ensure better utilization of the resources in the country.
Primary objectives:
To attract investments in irrigation system at field level
Develop and expand cultivable land in the country
Minimize wastage of water
Enhance crop per drop by implementing water - saving technologies
Precision irrigation
Tagline for PMKSY: “more crop per drop”
E - Pashuhaat Portal
Recently launched to connect farmers and breeders of bovine animals.
Launched on the occasion of birth anniversary of the father of India’s White Revolution Verghese Kurien and National Milk Day.
Provide all details at a single platform, including availability of bovine germplasm.
Portal will also connect the farmers with the milk cooperatives in the country.
India has the largest bovine population in the world.
Soil Health Card Scheme
Scheme to provide every farmer a Soil Health Card in a Mission mode.
Scheme will be implemented in all states to promote soil testing service.
State government should adopt innovative practices to issue Soil Health Cards.
State governments are also required to prepare yearly action plan.
Cost will be shared in the ratio of 75: 25 between the Centre and states.
Ornamental Fisheries Projects
Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare envisaged a program.
Launching a pilot scheme for the development of ornamental fisheries.
Ornamental fishery is a sub - sector of the fisheries sector.
Dealing with breeding and rearing of colored fish of both freshwater and marine water.
Objectives:
To promote ornamental fish culture with cluster-based approach.
To augment ornamental fisheries trade and export earnings.
To create employment opportunities for the rural & periurban population.
Use of modern technology and innovation
Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana
Farmers will have to pay a premium of:
2 % for all Kharif crops
1.5 % for all Rabi crops
5 % for annual commercial and horticultural crops
There will no upper limit on government subsidy.
Compulsory for farmers availing crop loans for notified crops in notified areas and voluntary for non - loanee farmers.
Use of technology, smart Phone, Remote sensing.
Farm level assessment for localized calamities.
Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojna
Formulated to promote Organic Farming.
Objective: To promote eco - friendly concept of cultivation reducing the dependency on agro - chemicals and fertilizers.Implemented in a cluster based approach.
