#task1: The chart shows how much 18 to 20 year olds spent on five different products for one country in 2010 and 2014. (Food, clothes, books, smartphones utilities)

#task2: Task 2.
Some people say that to prevent illness and disease, governments should focus more on reducing environmental pollution and housing problems.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

2024-02-07 08:01:02 Nowadays, people believe that governments should invest tax-payers money in healthcare, while others believe that money should be used in other areas.

Discuss both points of view and give your opinion.

Some
argue money from taxes should go to healthcare while others would rather it be spent on other sectors of the economy. I personally think government spending on healthcare is as essential as on other areas.

There are certainly many areas of the economy where government investment would be pragmatic, and one such sector is transportation. Transportation is an important catalyst behind economic development. Having improved road infrastructure and air traffic through government funding – paid for by taxpayers – governments can facilitate increased trade. Greater exchange of goods and services, in turn, leads to a dynamic economy. Similarly, spending on security cannot be overstated in today’s politically unstable world. With growing tensions between countries like Russia and Ukraine and Israel and Palestine as well as increasing crime rate in ever-spwarling cities, investment in both internal and external security is critical to maintain peace, which is essential to citizens’ overall wellbeing and productivity along with their immediate safety.

Just as important is government spending on healthcare. It is sensible for governments to invest in healthcare seeing as the overall health of a country is another strong predictor of its economic development. More precisely, a healthy population means a healthy workforce, which drives productivity and high economic output in turn. Furthermore, countries wishing to raise their happiness index also would find healthcare a worthy investment. Having made healthcare accessible and affordable through state subsidies, governments can provide a relief to sick-ridden people, which would ultimately contribute to their contentment. An economic boost and a happy nation, in turn, make for a successful country.

In conclusion, no one sector of the economy is less important than the other as they all have a part in driving a nation successful. Hence, I reckon that it is only prudent if governments invest equally in all these sectors.

2024-02-03 08:01:02 Some people argue that holding sporting events is beneficial to a country’s development. However, other people hold the opposite opinion.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

People
are divided as to whether a country benefits from hosting sporting events. While organizing sporting competitions and tournaments can prove disadvantageous in some regards, I share the view that it is beneficial to a country in many significant ways.

Some people object to a country hosting a sporting event, especially if it is an international one, for two primary reasons. First of all, there is an environmental aspect to consider. Sporting events are known to attract not only local visitors but also large crowds from other countries. An influx of tourists from other countries, in turn, contributes to overcrowding and traffic problems, which aggravate air and noise pollution. Heightened levels of pollution, as a result, disturbs the local wildlife as well as residents. Secondly, opponents are concerned that large scale sporting competitions may put pressure on local people. They fear local authorities may increase taxes to raise more funds in order to build new sports venues and renovate existing infrastructure in preparation for the events. This can lead to public disapproval and possibly, internal conflicts.

As much as I acknowledge the points above, I tend to believe holding sporting events does benefit a country in various ways. Sporting events revitalize the local economy by attracting tourists, who spend on public facilities like transportation and local businesses such as hotels and restaurants. As well as helping generate more income, such events mean new vacancies in many industries, further consolidating the local economy. On top of that, sporting events raise people’s awareness of the benefits of sports. The idea of global sporting events being held in their locality excites people, making it more likely that they take up sports. This, in effect, improves the overall public well-being. Finally, holding sporting competitions can improve a country’s international relationships, seeing as countries set aside their disputes and differences to celebrate the events like the Olympics and World Cup.

In conclusion, while organizing sporting events in a country may possibly undermine the local environment and cause public disapproval, I believe it is largely beneficial to a country’s economic, health and political development.
