Big Questions Ep. 2: Harvard

I know that a lot of students practice, practice and practice, but still lack one crucial element in their speech - the state of being NATURAL (or whatever you call it). Just students focus too much on the language and ignore how their ideas are communicating in another language.

Or sometimes, you see lots of students speaking SOMEONE ELSE'S ideas rather than their own, which is actually a big minus for their performance.

To get a real sense of natural speech, I decided to upload a questionnaire taken on Harvard students about basic question, MOST OF WHICH are similar to the questions in PART1.

Watching this video, I hope, will help you learn this element and put it into your practice.

2022-05-18 15:25:13 We see many students confused to choose a synonym to the word "show" in IELTS Writing Task1. Many look up the synonyms in a dictionary and end up choosing a synonym with completely different meaning and usage. The precision is what improves your Lexical Resource so learn the difference between words:

1. If graphs and charts show facts:

The two graphs show/give information on the number of people employed by the company in 1980 and 1990.

2.We use indicate when we want to draw a conclusion about the figures in the charts:

These figures indicate that the company is growing in size each year.

3.We use illustrate to refer to evidence or proof of something:

These figures illustrate the need for better management of our resources.

4.We do not use demonstrate, display or tell to describe a chart. Compare the following:
The salesman demonstrated the machine for us. (= show how something works)

So don't challenge yourself by searching for different synonyms but instead aim at simplicity and accuracy

2022-05-16 19:12:34 Food for Thought

The crucial step towards leading a simpler life isn’t – as we might initially suppose – to get rid of things. It’s to ask ourselves what our true longings are and what are the ends at which we are aiming. Simplicity isn’t so much a life with few things and commitments in it, as a life with the right, necessary things, attuned to our flourishing. Our lives will feel – and be – simpler when we’ve probed our minds to yield up their most secret and precious insight: the knowledge of what we truly want.

Southern

If you are one of those many people who misprounce the word, check it out.

And do remember that "southern" is an adjective and should be followed by a noun. e.g. southern part. The word "south" is a noun and doesn't require noun though.
