C1 level

I know how hard it is to prepare for the test when you are already a teacher and have family. Yet some determined people still manage it.

My congratulations!

2022-06-03 15:00:51 Don't study for IELTS but learn English

Many people ask if I teach CEFR. Actually I neither teach IELTS nor CEFR. I teach English. That's it. Anyone with an advanced level of language will ace any exam.

Unfortunately, many people place too much focus on their test preparation through devoting days and nights to learn techniques, writing structures and tips from those best instructors. And obviously they spend less time improving their languages. The result is predictable: you fail the test so miserably that you start looking for other tips to help you and feel surprised when you fail for the second time, third time. Nothing changes unless you get your priorities right!

My point here is that neither CEFR nor IELTS checks specific skills. What they assess is your language level. Stop looking for a magic formula and start improving your grammar and vocabulary. A person can familiarize themselves with the test only a month before it.

Nothing makes me as happy as my students achievements and their appreciation. Throughout my 5-year career path, I realized one thing: Everyone gets what they deserve in this life!

The second guest of this rubric today is the word 'home'. Just like 'abroad', 'home' also doesn't take any preposition before and after it, except for 'at'.

Examples? There you go:

- That young kid is still missing. It's said he left home without noticing anyone.
- My dad is coming back home from the deployment today, so I'm a little excited.

e.g. A: Let's go, bro. We're throwing one hell of a party today! And guess what? This is at the 5-star hotel.
B: No, thanks. I'm not in the mood for a get-together today. I'm just gonna stay at home and play video games.

#CommonMistakes

Alright, fellas. Let's talk a bit about the words that often don't require a preposition before and after them.

The first one is 'abroad', which usually means 'foreign' or 'overseas'. You see, we cannot tack any preposition on it. And it still makes sense in the way we want. Let me give you a couple of examples:

- Many young people of Uzbekistan dream of studying abroad.
- If you think going abroad solves all of your problems, you are dead wrong, my friend
.

Exception: The only preposition that can be used with the word is 'from'.

e.g. How about we get a bulk of gasoline shipped from abroad?

Idiom -
rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic
(do pointless tasks instead of facing real problems)

I love absolutely everything about this video. The narrator, her English, the lessons, how she gets across the message, everything. Enjoy!
