The urban farming movement is taking off, and it may just be the spark we need to change our relationship with food. When we grow our own food, we can better appreciate the resources and energy that goes into planting and then harvesting the fresh produce.

Could building edible gardens be an antidote to food wastage?

Could we BE any more excited for the FRIENDS reunion?

We were feeling nostalgic, and thought there was no better time to revisit this #InTheMoment episode at Central Perk Café!

So what exactly does FRIENDS have to do with financial planning? Those who watch the show would know that its strong female leads had many memorable moments which became valuable lessons for women at different life stages.

So here are 5 tips by Lorna Tan, Head of Planning Financial Literacy at DBS, on how we can better manage our finances.

1. Always prepare for the unexpected: This includes having an adequate retirement pool & health coverage to prepare for rising healthcare costs
2. Use digital tools like the DBS NAV Planner to set up a holistic financial plan
3. Have more emergency cash set aside if you’re in the gig economy
4. Be actively involved in your family's financial planning
5. Set aside some of your savings for investments

Nathan Hartono aka Bankertono may come across a little bit quirky. He's also got an uncanny resemblance to young Chester (played by Adrian Pang).

But behind Bankertono's lovable goofiness and supposed "bad memory", is an innovative young banker who brings fresh ideas to the table, and a spark to the people he meets.

Making change is, after all, about bringing people together to make one big difference .

SCAM ALERT: Scammers are impersonating DBS Bank in order to conduct advance fee fraud scams. An advance fee fraud scam uses an attractive reward as bait and requires an individual to pay a fee upfront in order to obtain the item. Commonly used rewards are services, stocks, contracts, or large amounts of money.

If a user accesses this fake website, they may be asked to login, provide other sensitive information under the guise of opening a DBS account, or to provide payment to the scammer. Users who fall victim to this scam may be subject to identity theft, future phishing attempts, and monetary loss.

The pandemic has been more than challenging. But society has only gotten stronger together and bounced back harder each time. In the latest episode of SPARKS, we're telling a real story - of people who came together to make a meaningful difference in the face of adversity.

The episode is inspired by TreeDots, a local social enterprise supported by the DBS Foundation, determined to redefine, repurpose and redistribute food that typically ends up as waste.

Episode 8 of #DBSSparks is one from the heart, in support of the everyday heroes who make our world a better place. Watch the all-new episode featuring Nathan Hartono here: go.dbs.com/sparks

“I have been in DBS for 44 years, since 1977. At home, I’m a grandma to an adorable 3-year-old and mum to 3 daughters — Vanya, Velda and Viola. My youngest daughter is working at Singapore Airlines and the older two have their own fashion labels. Velda is the founder of Collate and Our Second Nature and Viola is the co-founder of Love, Bonito.

Seeing how I was juggling work and family... I think it led my children to be more sensible with their finances. Even in their teenage years, they gave tuition, piano lessons and later on, started an online clothing store, Bonito Chicco [now Love, Bonito], to earn some extra pocket money and contribute to the household expenses.

Even though I had to work and care for the family at the same time, I love my work at DBS and I was very blessed my children understood that my job was important to me.

The road to juggling work and kids has not been an easy one but it’s definitely a rewarding one.”
