‘Booming agriculture’ – in other words, an increase in farming – is given as one of the reasons that the lake dried out.

Sometimes it can help to look beyond one sentence in the text to confirm your answer. In this case, the key words ‘surface area’ can be found in the sentence before the one that actually contains the answer. When you’re unsure about an answer, try reading the sentence before and/or the sentence after the one you think the answer is in.

While the paragraph mentions both Artemia brine shrimp and migratory birds, it doesn’t say anything about the relationship between the two. It isn’t clear whether migratory birds actually ate Artemia brine shrimp.

While certain key words from the sentence may be present in the text – e.g. ‘Artemia brine shrimp’ and ‘migratory birds’ – that doesn’t mean that the idea presented in the sentence is also in the text. Be careful not to assume information that isn’t explicitly stated in the text.

2021-03-22 12:21:47 Speaking of fake examples, I recently saw IDP Uzbekistan's post about the difference between a Band 7.0 and Band 9.0 essay. When you read the essays, you immediately see neither essay deserves the mark awarded. Especially a Band 7.0 one. The Band 9.0 one also uses fake statistics to support its claim. Right off the bat, I could see these examples were shared only to appeal to a wider audience, allowing them to increase the number of subscribers they have.

#AboutUsingFakeExamples

I am now watching a video of someone who claims that he is a former IELTS examiner. While developing the body paragraph, he says it is OK to use fake evidence or example and examiners don't necessarily check them.

I think it is very bad advice. Examiners are not stupid to see that you are clearly making up a fake research or study only to support your idea. I don't think it is a good way to lend support to your idea. Think about it. Would you be able to remember the details of the study (the percentages, the year, the publication) under exam conditions? I highly doubt that. Any sane examiner would immediately call that writer out on their BS, by lowering their score for Task Response.

Your examiner is someone with at least two degrees, who has checked hundreds of essays if not thousands. They can easily see you invented the study.

There was another student of mine who took the test on the 27th of February and he got to see his results today. Ilhom got an overall score of 7.0 with 8.5 in Listening and 6.5 in Writing.

This year about 15 students have scored either a 7 or 7.5. Going strong!
