Report from behind the front lines
Guys, had conversation this morning with a knowledgeable person with access to AFRC/CC and AFRC/CV conversations.
Q: Numbers if exemptions/potential losses in AFRC
A: We may have heard ~2,000 people in AFRC submitting RARs… but the true number really around ~7,000.
AD is about 13,000.
Reason for discrepancy/manipulation is how they count/report numbers. TR/ARTs/IMA… all military personal seeking exemption in AFRC is around 7,000.
Q: Why haven’t we seen CCs up and down the chain resigning?
A: Many have. From Cols down to CCs and DOs throughout AFRC. Not many have in 10AF, but 4AF alone, 4xOG/CCs have resigned, multiple CCs & DOs have resigned.
They are unable to backfill many of these positions, because many are also going through the same RAR process.
Q: So we’ve seen resignations at 0-6 and below… why no GOs not resigning?
Answer: very interesting…apparently when GOs get their star… they then transition to serving at the “pleasure of the president”. If a GO wants to retire, his retirement request has to be approved… not just pencil whipped. If there’s no one to replace him/her, they CANNOT retire. In the past (before COVID) GOs have put in for retirement… and they have been denied against their will… still serving 2, 3, 4 years.
If any GOs wanted to resign… they would be forced to continue to serve, and if they refused, they would be court martialed having UCMJ slapped against them for failure to go, etc.
Q: Why haven’t we heard of GOs filing lawsuits and 138 due to illegality of order?
A: He didn’t know answer, but maybe is happening without him knowing at his level…? Overall didn’t know, but thought it would be a great option for them.
Q: What happened to service before self????! These GOs are putting themselves above the health and safety and livelihood of the 1000s of Airmen their command.
A: No good answer. other than the generals are frustrated with the number of RARs and appeals they are getting. He heard a GO quote in an initial meeting. in their view… with regard to the individuals refusing vaxing… “why aren’t they putting service before self by taking the jab.”
So twisted IMO!
Other notes:
AFRC and AFs CCs… They were banking on airlines and contractors having to deal with the same mandate. And banking on pilots not being able to be hired by airlines. But this is not the case. SW airlines… 8,000 out of 12,000 said ‘no’ to vax… 2/3 of pilots! Now AF has a huge problem. It’s a sucking chest wound.
Same goes for DoD contactors… same standard… employees have the upper hand… “the great resignation” is a real thing and employees are able to leave jobs without worrying about getting another job with much higher pay.
Q: What do you think will happen with appeals at SG level?
Just his opinion (he doesn’t know) Source agrees that AFRC is just screwing people over by making them think they can’t meet a board and forcing them to IRR with no pay no point without due process of a board. Could all just be a scare tactic in order to get more people to get the vax. Game of chicken. But doesn’t know 100% what will happen at this point.
Rest assured there are dozens of people at the AFRC staff level l, and thousands at AFRC fighting this like we are!
