2021-08-19 14:20:52 Dear #geologist friends who trusted me, I am sorry to announce that I am no longer part of the Geology Here platform project, it has become the exclusive property of a Chinese company, I had previously promised you many #opportunities through this platform. But these promises will be realized through another ongoing project. I will come back to you when everything is set up.

2021-08-07 10:42:41 The Geologic History of Earth. Note the timescales. We are currently in the Holocene, which has been warm and moist and a great time to grow human civilization. But the activity of civilization is now pushing the planet into a new epoch which scientists call the Anthropocene.”

2021-08-01 11:54:00 The Yunak Evleri Cappadocia cave hotel | #Geology and #Awesome #Building

Cappadocia Hotel literally carved into the Yunak Evleri #mountain cliff. It includes 6 cave houses, a 19th century Greek mansion and 30 rooms dating back to the 5th and 6th century. Another reason to visit the luxurious #Cappadocia Hotel is the opportunity to explore its elaborate #underground cities, cavernous churches and incredible rock #terrain

Cappadocia is an otherworldly region in central #Turkey, and probably the country’s most fascinating #geological feature. Said to have emerged from #molten #lava that cold down over millions of years ago, Cappadocia is a land of weird #topography, with its “fairy chimneys” being the most prolific of its features. The region seems like a land lost in time, with ancient ruins of the past and modern touches of the present. But among the rocky terrain and the chimneys, are hidden some of the most historic #caves in the #world

2021-07-30 13:53:13 Red Rock Canyon in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada

Waterton #Lakes National Park is a national park located in the southwest corner of #Alberta, Canada, and borders Glacier National Park in Montana, United States. Waterton was #Canada's fourth national park.

this #canyon was #excavated by #erosion in the rockie #mountains of Canada (1200 to 1500 million years old).

most #rocks seen are #sedimentary, some of which have been slightly #metamorphosed (changed); a small percentage are #igneous

red rocks are usually #argillite - with less than 3% oxidized iron; green are also argillite - with unoxidized #iron ; beige/grey/brown are limestone or dolomite; black is an #intrusive #magma sandwiched between bands of white #marble (super-heated #limestone) called the Purcell Sill.

2021-07-21 11:10:26 Classification diagram for #igneous rocks. Igneous #rocks are classified according to the relative abundances of different #minerals. A given rock is represented by a vertical line in the diagram. In the #ultramafic field, the arrows represent a rock containing 40% #olivine and 60% #pyroxene . The name an igneous rock gets depends not only on composition, but on whether it is #intrusive or #extrusive. [KP]
