The purpose of petrology is to understand the conditions of the formation of rocks. The first stage of this approach is to describe and classify the rocks; that is the subject of petrography. Many characters can be used: density, hardness, colour, structure (on the scale of the outcrop), texture (on the scale of the sample or of the microscope), mineralogical composition, chemical composition, speed of propagation of the waves, etc.

Professeur John Graham Ramsay
John Graham Ramsay, is the father of modern structural geology.

Ramsay's 1967 book still tops the list of structural geology books published in the last five decades in terms of citations and influence. This 568-page book was reprinted in 2004 (Blackburn Press).

Two features distinguish the Ramsay book from many other structural geology textbooks. First, it applied mathematics to the tension of rocks; and second, it was very original, and not simply a synthesis of earlier works.

In the field of structural geology, the textbook written by John G Ramsay in 1967, reprinted in 2004 and translated into Spanish and Chinese, has had the greatest impact on research. With more than 4,000 citations (Google Scholar), it far surpasses the books of other authors on the subject, a figure that is only addressed in his latest book, Modern Structural Geology (Ramsay and Huber 1983).

2021-08-22 12:30:18 The Berry Head Arch. Canada

One of the most spectacular natural arches is located in Canada, in the province of Newfoundland and is called Berry Head. This monolithic arch is a massive bridge of craggy and sedimentary rocks which connects the two banks.

The height of the arch is 18 meters above sea level, and the length – 40 meters. The thickness of the arch monolith reaches more than 10 meters. Through the almost circular “window” formed by pyramidal rocky ledges, you can see the blue sea

2021-08-21 21:25:38 Basque coast, Gipuzkoa Spain

Fossils trapped for over 50 million years in the pastry-puff rock formation – technically known as flysch – along a 13-kilometer stretch of land on the western coast of Gipuzkoa have earned this place a spot in the European Geoparks Networks. Like a book written in stone, each stratum of flysch contains a 60-million-year-old chapter in the history of the Earth, from the Upper Cretaceous period (around 100 million years ago) to the Eocene (40 million years ago).

Urchin or sea urchin small, spin, globular animal belonging to be the classe #enchinoidea. Urchins inhabit all oceans. Their shelle, or "test" is round and spiny, typicaly from 3 to 10 cintimetres "1.2 to 3.9 INCH" across

Let's see in the comments your information about sea urchin #fossils
