In January 2022, thousands of children in Tanzania will start their first day at secondary school. But unfortunately, many will not, because they cannot afford school uniform and school supplies.

Kijana Kwanza in Moshi, Tanzania is launching its Back to School Appeal to provide children with uniform and a ruck sack of essential books and stationery. Each Back to School Pack costs £65/$90 and includes 2 pairs of school uniform, a ruck sack, 12 excercise books, a dictionary, maths set, pens and pencils.

We have 100s of children waiting for your support. Sponsor a Back to School Pack and you'll receive a thank you letter from your sponsored child!

The difference between livings things and non-living things is the topic at today's biology class led by Teacher Hadija. These 24 children could not read a single word of English just 4 weeks ago!

It might be getting dark, but our Form 2 girls are busy revising for the start of their National Examinations. Good luck girls! We know you can do it.

Since textbooks and revision guides are hard to come by in Tanzania, our teachers have been busy developing their own activity sheets to keep our children engaged. This wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of WordMint.com who have provided us with a free subscription of their online software that helps teachers and educators create educational puzzles, wordsearches and crosswords with the click of a button. Thank you so much!

The children and young people at Kijana Kwanza in Moshi, Tanzania, have put on their first drama production. In this story, King Ngowi (Jordan) announces that he will take another wife (Pili), unleashing a sinister plot in the palace involving his first wife (Lulu) and a witch doctor (Saidi). The audience is entertained by the town crier (Erick) who confuses his public announcements and a dopey sentinel (Lukumani), who regularly falls asleep on the job. Through storytelling and creative expression, our young people acquire the confidence to explore social and cultural attitudes in society, as well as make sense of their own traumatic stories of abandonment, abuse and rejection.

The moment of glory! Kijana Kwanza's girls' football team, score a (somewhat) impressive penalty shot, after 90 minutes of tedium. This evening, they will collect their trophy and a prize of 5 goats, before a victory parade through Moshi Town.

Prior to the final match, Dr Edward Mwendamske, presented his new publication, sponsored by Kijana Kwanza, 'Mimi ni Nani' (Who am I?), a self-help book for children and young people, which aims to promote self-understanding, ambition and emotional intelligence.

Our budding engineer, Lukumani, has a new invention he wants to promote to the Tanzanian market! What is he making? Guess it right for a special KK prize. Comment on FB, Twitter or Instagram @KijanaKwanzaTZ.

Teacher Regan has been leading a celebration of the UN International Day of the Girl Child in Moshi, Tanzania, but it seems that some of boys are feeling left out and have hijacked the demo. #typical

Karibuni sana! This week, we welcome 24 orphaned, abandoned and at risk children to our shelter in Moshi, Tanzania. The students will take part in a 3 month residential course, including formal tuition in English, Maths and Science, as well as life skills training, which will enable them to make a successful transition from primary to secondary school.
