Hello? New update announcement team, how can we help you today?

Yep, we're august, and while we would want to release multiple updates at once usually, today we're making available a new version of WOA Dialer with fully working contact page!

You can download the updated appx below, this is going to end up in a general update soon for the driver repository.

2021-07-21 15:11:06 A quick update on terminology used across the project

With time it became clear there's a disconnect between terms used to name a few elements of the project, which leads to communication issues, this post aims to address some of them.

- "WOA" is not the name of this project, "WOA" (short for "Windows On ARM") is the name created by Microsoft to designate Windows running on ARM processors.

- "LumiaWOA" on the other hand, is the name of the project.

- The name of the tool to deploy Windows On ARM to your Lumia 950/950 XL is "WOA Deployer", not "WOA"

- "Cityman" is the codename of the Lumia 950 XL, and is often used to avoid confusion.
- "Talkman" is the codename of the Lumia 950, and is also often used to avoid confusion.

- "BSP" is short for Board Support Package, it is the package with all drivers that make all the hardware work with the OS, it includes the firmware.

- "Driver Repository" is the term used to designate the GitHub repository hosting the driver binaries

- "Lumia950XlPkg" is the name of the EDK2 package that makes Lumias work with EDK2

- "EDK2" is the name of an open source UEFI implementation

- "Project Mu" is the name of a fork of EDK2 by Microsoft

- "BootShim" is the name of the shim loader which switches the phone SoC from ARM32 to ARM64, and then loads and starts the UEFI (Lumia950XlPkg)

- "MTP" is the name of the protocol that allows you to exchange files between your phone and your computer

- An "FFU" is a full flash update file, it is basically an image backup of another phone disk, which however is missing provisioning partitions. This allows reflashing an entire image without overwriting this precious data that is unique for your device

- "WPinternals" is the name of the tool designed to unlock your device bootloader (not made by us, but by HeathCliff74)

- "thor2" is the name of the official command line only flashing tool by Microsoft Mobile Oy

This post is going to be updated overtime, if some new confusion arises

2021-07-20 20:16:00 An update on thermal issues affecting Lumia 950s/950 XLs:

An issue has been discovered with several driver components on 950s and 950 XLs leading to overheating issues and bad thermal behavior, as well as battery life decrease.

This issue is caused by the following components:

- The WLAN driver (WiFi) (high impact)
- The Battery Driver (minor impact)
- The Automatic Brightness service (high impact)
- The Automatic Rotation service (medium impact)

In order to prevent the thermal issues from occurring, and if you do not mind the loss of functionality, it is advised to:

- Disconnect from any WiFi network on your device
- Open Task Manager, go to advanced view, services, open services (bottom), find Mobile Auto Rotation Service as well as Mobile Ambient Light service, and disable both of them
- Do not use the device always plugged in to a power source

If you follow above's steps, and turn off the device for some time once it is cold, and then turn it back on, your device will be:

- Extremely cold
- No thermal issues, no power throttling
- Responsive
- More battery life

Updates will go out at a later date once more time has been found to develop fixes, for all of these issues

2021-06-29 12:08:34 You can get an ISO image for the ARM64 architecture that has the right updates integrated here by the way, til the known conversion tools/sites update their tooling for it to work properly.
