Week in OSINT #2022- 20 - sector035 - Shortemall
https://github.com/osintmatter/shortemall

A new tool on the block from MatterOsint when it comes to trying to find interesting shortened links. The tool gives you the ability to quickly scan for possible URLs that contain certain keywords, or combination of keywords. It creates permutations of all possibilities and scans the shortened URLs, and can create screenshots of the outcome.

Week in OSINT #2022- 20 - sector035 - Assume Nothing!

This next image is a perfect example of how disinformation starts, and how it's important to look at information from different angles. Question everything, find more sources to corroborate a finding, investigate, and never stop being curious! Thank you for this wonderful example Nico!

2022-06-04 09:08:00 Week in OSINT #2022- 20 - sector035 - Rekognition
Rekognition: https://aws.amazon.com/rekognition/

This isn't a recent tip, but was re-shared recently by Aaron, when he jumped into the world of AWS and Rekognition. To show what is possible with Rekognition he re-shared a blog by Matt Edmondson from 2020, and it shows what is possible regarding OCR from images, and how AWS could provide automation to find possible matching images from people. I haven't tested this myself, so for more in depth info or screenshots, do go over the links below.

Be aware that an automated tool to compare faces is only that, a tool. A professional trained in this field of expertise can give insight in the level of confidence, and is able to provide more information on why faces match or not. You could use the outcome of this tool as a pre-selection for further analysis, but I'd caution to never rely solely on the outcome of the tool as a method of 'identification'.

2022-05-24 14:13:14 Awesome Modern Twitter API
A curated list of awesome libraries, SDKs, software and resources for the modern (post-v1.1) Twitter API.

The Twitter API is the programming interface that enables developers like you to build apps and tools on top of the Twitter Developer Platform. Version 2 of the API represented a complete rewrite from the legacy (v1.1) platform, with new endpoints, data formats, and semantics. This list only includes content that is directly relevant to the modern API.

2022-05-22 09:07:57 War on the Rocks

War on the Rocks
is a platform for analysis and debate on strategy, defense, and foreign affairs. It features articles and podcasts produced by an array of writers with deep experience in these matters: top notch scholars who study war, those who have served or worked in war zones, and more than a few who have done it all.

This is what sets us apart from other publications: experience.

Among our regular contributors are people who have worked on every continent in the world. They have commanded ships, bargained with militias, led patrols, managed alliances, called for fires, and negotiated treaties. They include former diplomats, officers, NCOs, intelligence professionals, and some of the most reputable scholars in the world studying war and international politics. Our contributors include citizens of countries from around the world, members of all political parties and none. But they all converge on that one guiding principle for our project: experience.

We seek to teach people how to think about the world, rather than what to think about it. We do not impose conclusions on our authors or our readers. We reason forward to find answers, not backward from predetermined beliefs. We believe in the centrality of fear, honor, and interest as drivers of inter-state affairs. Politics is power. À la Morgenthau, we understand power as “anything that establishes and maintains the power of man over man …. from physical violence to the most subtle psychological ties by which one mind controls another.” While armed force or the threat thereof is often central to our analyses, our writers also engage deeply with ideas and social control as mechanisms for power. No topic is off limits.

2022-05-21 09:07:57 Week in OSINT #2022- 18 - sector035 - Behind the Name

User 'Skiposint' shared a resource in the #asia-and-pacific channel, where the meaning of Chinese names can be found. Besides that, it also shows the gender that is connected to it. A helpful resource if you only have a name, and are curious about a possible gender. This is one of those sites that won't be opened on a daily basis, but might come in handy one day.

And of course Sinwindie is on their too, where he shared a new flowchart this weekend. This time he took Snapchat and created an overview of pivot points for this platform. It's again a beautiful masterpiece, and can't wait to see what else he's able to com up with! Thanks for creating these!

Week in OSINT #2022- 18 - sector035 - SkypeSearch

Another useful script was shared by TNISO, and is for finding information on Skype users. A simple Python script, where you only need to save your token in a text file. And it doesn't simply look for an email address or username either, but there's another feature that isn't mentioned on GitHub. If you provide a username, it also enumerates a list of 14 common email providers, and tried to find matching users too.
