According to Zoroastrianism, the otter is the holiest of dogs, and is aptly called the "water-dog".
They say that 1000 dog souls is need to make a single water-dog.
Also, killing a water-dog brings forth a drought that dries up pastures. The drought lasts until the murderer of the water-dog has been killed and a dog sacrificed.
