Warren Buffett buys more Occidental !
Occidental Petroleum Corp (OXY) reported revenue slipping and missed first-quarter earnings. However, Warren Buffett’s
Berkshire Hathaway (BRK B) continued to buy more Occidental oil shares.
Occidental announced Q1FY23 revenue decreased 13% to US$7.26 billion in Q1. Net profit attributable was US$983 million, down from US$4,676 million in the prior year. The adjusted earnings per share (EPS) were US$1.09 per share, down -48.58% and missed analysts’ estimate of US$1.235 per share.
Occidental Petroleum produced 1.22 million barrels of oil equivalent per day in Q1, up 13% from last year. Occidental raised its full-year production guidance to average 1.195 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOE/D). Occidental executives previously forecast 2023 production to average 1.18 million BOE/D.
After releasing the missed earnings results, Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has substantially increased its stake in the international oil industry. Berkshire recently disclosed that it bought nearly US$130 million of Occidental oil shares in the past few days. Berkshire’s latest purchase ware made at prices between US$56.34 and US$58.52
After a buying in May, Berkshire currently owns 213.9 million Occidental shares or a 24% stake. Those stakes are worth more than US$12 billion.
Buffett has regularly bought Occidental shares since early last year when the stock drops below US$60. Meanwhile, Buffett told investors that he has no intention to take over Occidental Petroleum even though he and Berkshire Hathaway “love” their current OXY shares.
