At the end of January-March 2021, the foreign trade turnover of the republic reached $10.3 bln, which, compared to the same period in 2020, decreased by $378.8 million (a decrease of 3.5%).

From the total volume of FTT, exports amounted to $3.5 bln (a 19.1% decrease was noted against January-April 2020), and imports - $6.8 bln (an increase of 7.0% ). As a result, the balance of foreign trade turnover amounted to a passive balance in the amount of $3.3 bln.

"On the back of a solid reform agenda Uzbekistan established itself in somewhat exaggerated terms as "Poland" of Central Asia" says Researchers of Raiffeisen Research Center.

Through the cycle and incl. the COVID-19 crisis years GDP growth in Uzbekistan is likely to average ~5% 2016-2022.

Uzbekistan's foreign trade has developed very dynamically in recent years. Foreign trade volumes increased by 40% over the last 5 years, import volumes have nearly doubled. Moreover, foreign trade volumes have the potential to double again by 2026.

Foreign banks have increased their exposures towards Uzbekistan significantly in recent years. Apart from the successful Eurobond placings worth nearly USD 3 bln in 2019-2021 year-to-date, there has been a steep rise in cross-border banking claims on Uzbekistan.

In April 2021, The demand of the population in the car market for the third month in a row shows moderate growth, having increased by 14.1% compared to March of this year.

The growth in car sales was 355.9% compared to April 2020, and compared to the same period in 2019, 19.6%.

2021-05-19 14:44:28 The UN General Assembly adopted a special resolution declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies

The initiative belongs to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The resolution was co-sponsored by 60 states from different regions of the world.

Resolution adopted by the General Assembly:

declares its support for regional events and initiatives aimed at improving the environmental, social, economic and demographic situation in the Aral Sea region;

encourages scientific and research advisory activities in the interests of further restoration and improvement of the environment, conservation of natural resources and improvement of the quality life of the population;

emphasizes the importance of intensifying regional cooperation in the implementation of joint measures to overcome the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis and stabilize the ecological situation in the region;

calls on all stakeholders to conduct joint interdisciplinary research, develop and introduce environmentally friendly technologies, promote sustainable inclusive and environmentally sustainable economic growth.

In January-April 2021, 59.6 thousand new cars were registered. From these, 2.9 thousand (4.9%) are foreign cars.


The number of transactions will continue to grow and may set local records, but prices will not rise sharply.

2021-05-18 07:31:08 Weekly Price Review: Price of vegetable Oil fell by 0.9% in Two Weeks

Focus on vegetable oil

The average price in the republic by the end of the week for a liter of vegetable oil decreased by 0.4% to 19,034 soums.

The level of average prices was in the range from 17,110 soums per liter in the Andijan region to 20,440 soums in Tashkent.

There is a decrease in 11 regions in prices for vegetable oil, the largest was recorded in Khorezm (by 1.3%), Bukhara (by 0.9%) regions and Tashkent city (by 0.8%).

Prices grew over the week only in 3 regions, in Kashkadarya (by 0.2%), Tashkent (by 0.1%), Fergana (by 0.02%).

For 2 weeks, from April 28 to May 12, the average prices for vegetable oil in the republic decreased by 0.9%.

About the dynamics of explosive growth during the period of five years in Uzbekistan’s tourism industry in the review of the expert #CERR Khasanjon Majidov.

At the turn of the reforms in 2016–2017, Uzbekistan is achieving significant growth in inbound tourism.

From 2016 to 2019, the number of foreign tourists increased from 2.0 million to 6.7 million, respectively.
