Meaning: not to notice flaws in anyone or anything. The expression is present in many languages of the world. The first written mention of this phrase can be found in Arthur Schopenhauer's publication (essays in "The Wisdom of Life"). It is highly possible that the idiom might have appeared much earlier - Schopenhauer uses it without additional clarification, as a well-known expression.
