FINCA SANTA TERESA, PANAMA (GESHA)

Located high in the cloud forest of Panama, Finca Santa Teresa sits close to the border with Costa Rica and Panama's highest peak, the Volcan Baru, and is adjacent to La Amistad National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Coffees produced in Panama are often known for their quality due to its exceptional terroir - rich volcanic soils, high altitude, weather systems driven by the Pacific and Atlantic and a series of ridges and valleys.

This particular Gesha lot is from the Summer plot which produces shade-grown coffee from 12 year old trees. To produce this honey processed lot, ripe cherries are picked and then de-pulped before being left to dry on raised beds. These cherries are also turned frequently to allow the honey to develop, creating a unique sweetness along with the high-altitude acidity combined with a deep mellow body.

NEW COFFEE

As we start exploring more of Peru, we begin uncovering gems in smaller producers like Idelo Ulises Neyra and his 2.5 hectare farm El Lechero.

This coffee was sourced by @nordicapproach and their exporting partner Organic Coffee Lab. They developed a quality program for producers in micro-regions such as La Coipa, Colosay & San Ignacio. These farms are typically family-run with their own micro mill and drying facilities.

This coffee is incredibly elegant, with soft fruit characters & underlying florals. We intended to slow the roast down to accentuate the mouthfeel rather than highlighting the acidity & this resulted in a ripe/dried apricot acidity that melds seamlessly into the mid palate.

El Lechero has given us a lot of excitement for the potential of Peruvian coffees in the coming years!
