Muslim History: What, Why and How?
𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻? Saturday 23rd July 2022 | 11am - 12.30pm (UK time)
𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁: Free
𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿: Mawlana Adil Tagari
𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀:
We will gently introduce the science of ‘Historiography’, unearthing the principles and guidelines needed for an effective study of the elusive subject, and to highlight the common pitfalls when approaching Muslim history.
Why have I included the phrase ‘Muslim History’ in the title as opposed to ‘Islamic history’? This is calculated and not random.
Our history is an overlooked and, at the same time, a highly sensitive field of study. More so are the preliminary skills which aid us in our journey across the ages. In this preparatory session (hopefully acting as an introduction and paving the way to an extensive course on the entire Muslim History), we will gently introduce the science of ‘Historiography’, unearthing the principles and guidelines needed for an effective study of the elusive subject, and to highlight the common pitfalls when approaching Muslim history.
𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀:
By the end of the webinar, students would have:
• An acquaintance with the field of ‘Historiography'
• Key principles when studying Muslim history
• The typology and different periods of Muslim history
• Common misconceptions
• Major historians and their works
• Didactic utility of the study of Muslim history
