The science of Rasm al-Khatt is a study of and a preservation of the unique orthography of the Qur’an. In this course, we will briefly explore the history of the writing of the Qur’an, what are some of the ways in which the orthography of the Qur’an differs from Arabic spelling convention, and what are some of the possible reasons for this.
In this course, we will briefly explore the history of the writing of the Qur’an, what are some of the ways in which the orthography of the Qur’an differs from Arabic spelling convention, and what are some of the possible reasons for this. While this webinar will not be a complete study of Mufti Mohamed-Umer Esmail’s (RA) Tashil al-Rusum, it will be one of the main resources that students will be referring to. Course participants will be provided with a pdf of this work, in sha Allah.
𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀:
By the end of the webinar, students would have:
• Explain the three stages of the collection of the Qur’an
• Describe the difference between rasm and dabt
• Briefly explain the history of how Qur’anic writing developed
• Define the five principles of Rasm
• Identify examples in copies of the Qur’an of each of these principles
𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆:
Ustadhah Saima Yacoob is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition to holding multiple ijazahs in Tajweed and the Canonical Readings of the Quran (Qiraat), she holds a Master’s in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University.
She has actively been studying the science of Tasawwuf with her teachers for over a decade, alongside which Ustadhah has been teaching and spiritually serving her community in Eastern United States.
