4th most common cause of cancer related deaths in Northern hemispheres ( datas are lacking in southern hemisphere).
#Histopathology:
Exocrine carcinoma:
Most common
Ductal Adenocarcinoma 75-80%
Endocrine:
A-Functional:
1- Gastrinoma. 3-Vipoma.
2-Insulinoma 4-Gluconoma
5-Stomatostinoma.
B-Non-functional.
#Clinical_manifestion:
1)Older adults.
2)Epigastric pain: Constant.
3)Weight loss.
4)Jaundace + pale Stool + dark urine & itching.
5)Steatohorrea and Malabsorption.
6)Recent onset DM (Atypical DM).
#Site:
Head of the pancreas(70%):
Jaundace is prominent.
Symptoms appear early.
Better Prognosis.
Body and tail of the Pancreas( 30%):
Clinically more subtle.
Present late.
Irresectable at time of presentation in most cases.
Poor prognosis.
#Management:
Resectable:
Confined to the pancreas.
Operation: Whipple operation.
Irresectable:
Involve liver and surrounding structures = palliative.
