Neonates:(Atypical symptoms)
Non-Specific symptoms (Fever, Refusal of feeding, somonlence and fussiness).
Older (Typical symptoms and signs):
Headach.
Nuchal pain.
Photophobia.
Phonophobia.
Seziures and psychic changes.
Back pain.

#Signs:
Nick rigidity: resist passive movement.
Bruduzinski sign (Both involve knee & neck) : flexion of the neck will cause flexion of knees & hips.

Kernig sign (Knee): difficulty straightening the knee when the hips are flexed 90° patient feel pain which limits range of movement.

#Traumatic_Brain_Injury(TBI):
1-Minor TBI:
15/15 GCS.
No fractures or Neurological deficits.
Trivial trauma.

#Aproach: no need for imaging, reassure and discharge.

2- Mild TBI (Concussion):
13-15 GCS.
Vomiting and headche.
Breif loss of consciousness (LOC) <5 minutes.
Considerable trauma.

#Approach either:
1- admission ( 4-6h) if Clinically free u can discharge and instruct the patient to seek medical advice if any new symptoms appear.
2- CT non contrast: if no improvement or symptoms are worsening.


3- Serious TBI:
GCS < 13.
Prolonged LOC.
Fracture base of the skull.
Focal Neurological deficit.
Seziures.

#Approach: Non contrast CT + Neurosurgical consultation.


We don't like to use CT in pediatrics why?
Risk of Cancer from CT related radiation #Increases with #Decreasing age.
