It started with a simple WhatsApp SOS sent to Temasek's Anuj Maheshwari, Managing Director of Investment.

India was in urgent need of oxygen concentrators, especially as the country experienced a devastating second wave.

In response, Anuj, alongside other Temasek staff and partners, came swiftly on board to help. Over three phases, the initiative facilitated and distributed thousands of life-saving equipment to hospitals and COVID centres India, helping the country breathe better.

For Anuj, this commitment to help is a reflection of our DNA.

Solar panels are great — but what if you could harvest Earth’s heat to power your home? That’s exactly what Canada-based geothermal tech company Eavor, which #TemasekInvests in, is doing! It has created a closed-loop system called Eavor-Loop that can harvest the Earth’s heat to generate clean and scalable energy on-demand.

To reach net zero, we’ll need more of such radical, transformative technologies — but several of these innovations are not available in the market yet. That’s why we’ve partnered with US-based investment company BlackRock to help accelerate and scale such decarbonisation innovations.

Our planet is heating up! The world must achieve net zero emissions by 2050 to stabilise our global average temperature. If global warming exceeds 1.5°C, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warns that some impacts — such as the loss of ecosystems — could be long-lasting or irreversible.

To put it simply, there will not be returns on a dead planet and there will not be any returns if societies fail.

As a firm, we achieved carbon neutrality last year — but that’s not enough. We’re committed to shaping a better and more sustainable world for all. We aim to halve our portfolio’s carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050.
