Most of us can't wait to travel again, but did you know that aviation contributes close to 3% of global carbon emissions? In fact, if aviation were a country, it would be the sixth-largest carbon emitter in the world.

What if we could fly in a greener way? Specifically, by turning unwanted resources like waste oils or household garbage into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to power planes! In its pure form, SAF can reduce up to 95% of carbon emissions over its lifecycle compared to conventional fossil jet fuel. However, the current price of SAF is still higher than regular jet fuel since it’s a fairly young market.

During a recent Ecosperity Conversations webinar, industry experts agreed that to increase the adoption of SAF, policymakers, airlines and consumers will have to work together to bring costs down.  Open / Comment

To improve biodiversity conservation in Singapore and beyond, we have partnered Mandai Park Holdings in establishing the Mandai Nature Fund, to team up with local organisations to improve their wildlife conservation efforts and contribute to healthy ecosystems!

The fund will also work with partners to develop nature-based solutions for climate change, focusing on protecting and restoring tropical forests, mangroves and peatlands — which in turn provide habitats for wildlife and critical ecosystem services. Open / Comment

How do you go about developing dairy proteins without having to milk cows? Here’s how foodtech startup Perfect Day, which #TemasekInvests in, is doing so with the help of science and technology.

Perfect Day makes dairy proteins using microflora (tiny organisms like yeast) and a fermentation technique similar to that of beer brewing. Such dairy-free proteins are not only animal-friendly, but also come without the downsides associated with traditional milk production, like the release of methane and potential residue of hormones and antibiotics.

It could also mean that countries which typically import most of their milk like Singapore might one day be able to produce more dairy products at home. Open / Comment
