The Janus Henderson Global Dividend Index tracked the volume of dividends. According to its data, the amount reached an all-time high.

Banks and financial institutions made the biggest payouts in the second quarter of 2022 - nearly a quarter of the total, or $140 billion. That's 15.7% more than in the first quarter of 2022.

Companies in the fuel and energy sector increased their dividends the most. They paid about $45 billion to shareholders in the second quarter of 2022, an 88% increase over the first quarter of 2022. The growth was affected by high energy prices.

U.S. companies set a record for payouts, distributing more than $144 billion to shareholders. European organizations accounted for $165.8 billion of the total.

The brand value of sportswear maker Li Ning Co. rose 66% to $3.4 billion, the largest increase in the annual list compiled by Kantar BrandZ. The growth in brand value was driven by technical innovation and patriotic style, with the latter fueling a growing wave of consumer nationalism in China that has sidelined global companies such as Nike Inc.

The total value of China's top 100 brands fell 20% to $1.24 trillion.

Tencent Holdings Ltd. retained the top spot for the second year, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. ranked second and liquor company Kweichow Moutai Co. rounded out the top three, Bloomberg.

Synchron has developed a brain implant that is designed to help paralyzed patients control digital devices with their minds.

Xiaomi Corp. is in talks with Beijing Automotive Group Co. to cooperate in electric car production as the tech company seeks to fulfill a promise to produce its own electric cars by 2024.

The two giants are exploring various options, including Xiaomi buying a stake in Beijing Hyundai No. 2 plant, which has a full license to produce cars in China.

The cooperation could lead to cars being produced under the Beijing Automotive brand, BAIC BluePark New Energy Technology Co. and under a joint brand with Xiaomi.

Shares of BAIC Motor Corp. rose 30.5%, the biggest intraday gain in the company's history. Xiaomi shares rose only slightly, while BAIC BluePark shares jumped 10%.

Xiaomi has promised to invest about $10 billion over ten years to produce Xiaomi-branded cars in 2024, Bloomberg.

T-Mobile US Inc. has partnered with Elon Musk's SpaceX to offer wireless telephone service in remote parts of the United States where coverage is very poor.

The service will be launched next year.

Musk said the satellite service would work even during hurricanes and natural disasters that take out traditional cell towers. He said it would eventually save the lives of people injured or stranded in remote parts of the world.

The billionaire added that SpaceX is offering an "open invitation" to other carriers to work with Starlink. Eventually, the service will even be able to work in space.

Musk also later tweeted that the service will be added to Tesla Inc. cars so that drivers can make emergency calls and send text messages, Bloomberg.
