Nakamise-Dori, Asakusa
Tokyo, Japan
This street is widely known as a tourist spot, but not many people know that Japanese style mural artworks are drawn on the store shutters. You can see them in the morning before the stores open.

Chuo-Dori, Nihonbashi
Tokyo, Japan
It flourished as a central area in Tokyo 400 years ago so the street has a lot of historical buildings, including 2 of Japan’s oldest department stores. You can enjoy both the historical and modern sides of Japan.

Kiyosumi-Dori, Kiyosumi Shirakawa
Tokyo, Japan
It was originally an old Tokyo area but those rustic buildings have been turned into hipster cafes, galleries and gift shops since a couple of years ago.

Like Natsumi.

Natsumi grew up in Tokyo. She teaches Japanese for people who live in Japan and works as an English proofreader.

I reached out to Natsumi with a simple question - it was something like «3 places, facts or just interesting things about Tokyo that only locals know, but no «Only Locals Know» article ever mentioned».

Thanks to Natsumi - we have some unique photos as well!

I won’t change the text and will send both pics and advice as is, without my interpretations or corrections. It would kill the whole idea of fighting the cliche.

The picture btw is from Natsumi’s Instagram - you can check it out: @natgoodtravel

2021-06-02 17:04:00 So what, we’re predestined to fall victims of the SEO algorithms?

Hell nope.

Thankfully, we live in a pretty connected world, and reaching out to a REAL local, personally, has never been easier.

Instead of gathering info from optimised and polished useless articles, this way, you get the information, that is:

First-hand;
Exclusive;
Probably not-so-well-known.

Besides, this way, the advice is unaffected by the marketing schemes of the travel industry.

Real locals know their town better than anyone, but they can work in literally any other sphere.

Time to introduce something new?

One of the most clichéd and worn out formats that you can think of in this subject is the «Local’s advice».

It’s pretty obvious why it’s so popular: we, humans, are simple beings. We trust those who have more experience than us. That’s why a local’s advice is always better than «some guy who’s been there once or twice»’s advice.

Unfortunately, everyone knows it by this point - and those who write clickbait articles know it too.

That’s why there are tons of generic blogs posts that start with something like «10 secret places in Paris only locals know», that end up suggesting the Eiffel Tower in the second paragraph.

Hey, we just passed our first 1000!

Thank you for joining
Like, really. It feels much better to post something that people will look at, than just collecting stuff in my own notes and gallery.
