2021-07-31 19:24:24 Important Data :- Between April 2020 and June 2021, an estimated 9,000 children have been rescued after being trafficked for labour, according to a child rights non-governmental organisation (NGO). In other words, 21 children have been trafficked every day over nearly 15 months. The Childline India helpline received 44 lakh distress calls over 10 months. Over a year, 2,000 children have arrived at its shelter homes and 800 rescued from hazardous working conditions.

POSSIBLE PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING INCLUDE:
 Depression
 Anxiety disorders, including panic disorder
 Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
 Substance use and disorders
 Shame and guilt
 Alienation and isolation from social supports
 Suicidal ideation (thoughts of suicide)
 Identity disturbance/confusion

The risk of developing a mental health disorder, as a victim of trafficking, may be influenced by multiple factors:
 Past experience of trauma/abuse
 Duration of exploitation
 Violence
 Restrictions on movement while being trafficked
 Greater number of unmet needs
 Lower levels of support following trafficking

BASIC DEFINATION

DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND PTSD:

Depression—When a person is depressed, they may experience symptoms that make it difficult to realistically evaluate and change their circumstances. They may have trouble thinking clearly and making decisions, properly caring for themselves, or feeling worthy or motivated to change.

Anxiety—When a person has an anxiety disorder, they may experience general or specific fears and worries. The person may become preoccupied with anxious thoughts, making it difficult to function normally, as they attempt to navigate through their fears and worries. They may have trouble making decisions and concentrating, changing their routines, or trusting new people and situations.

PTSD—When a person suffers from PTSD, they may avoid people, places, and things, in an attempt to avoid any triggers/reminders of the traumatic event/s. They may experience intrusive thoughts, images, and flashbacks, which impact their ability to cope in the present. They may also experience mood changes and trouble concentrating.

Substance Use Disorders—When a person uses substances to self-medicate or is addicted to one or more substances, they may spend a large amount of time obtaining, using, and recovering from the substance. This leaves little time to evaluate their circumstances or make plans to change. While under the influence or going through withdrawals, it can be challenging to think clearly and make healthy decisions. This may lead to self-destructive behavior. In addition, traffickers use substances to control victims, either by introducing them to substances or by controlling access to substances, allowing them to control, manipulate and exploit the victim.

2021-07-30 09:38:03 Important point to focus:-

Elementary school curriculum can play a tremendous role in building courteous and mindful societies in following ways:- (LEARNING FROM JAPAN EDUCATION MODEL)

FOCUSSING UPON NON-COGNITIVE ELEMENTS
Important aspect of the Japanese curriculum is its emphasis on non-cognitive elements. Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) explains ‘Chi-Toku-Tai’ as the defining features of Japanese schooling.
 Chi, which translates to ‘know’ lay an emphasis on building strong academic abilities.
 Toku, translates to ‘virtue’ and refers to mindfulness, self-discipline, and cooperative abilities. And last,
 Tai, translates to ‘body, and refers to physical and mental well-being.

SHAPING SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
Moral education includes norms that define socially responsible and considerate behaviour towards everyone including nature. For example, as a summer project, students venture out in nature observing beetles, cicadas, crickets and sketching or noting their characteristics in their ‘insect diary’.

Students as young as first graders take turns to clean their classrooms, washrooms, serve school lunches, and water the plants at school. When students cross a pedestrian crossing while making a driver wait, they bow in a ‘thank you’ to express gratitude.
While these are some examples, the essence is that elementary school curriculum can play a tremendous role in building courteous and mindful societies.

2021-07-26 10:24:04 .Preventing and Treating Dementia
Making key lifestyle changes is critical to reducing a person’s risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease, as well as maintaining good cognitive functioning as long as possible. This includes engaging in regular physical activity, which increases blood and oxygen flow in the brain. It’s also important to eat a heart-healthy diet with plenty of water, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains while limiting sugar and saturated fats.
Staying socially engaged later in life can also help protect against Alzheimer’s disease and dementia; this may include developing a strong, supportive network of friends and families and becoming a part of communities that matter to you.
