An article in a British newspaper from the 19th century.

It describes the process of hunting a crocodile: a hunter sits with a gun in an ambush and a child is used as bait for the predator. In those days, detailed actions did not violate any laws, even if the crocodile had managed to eat the "bait".

In 1835 Halley's comet passed close to Earth and Mark Twain was born two weeks after perihelion.

In 1909 he wrote: "I came in 1835 with Halley's Comet, a year later it arrives again and I expect to leave with it» And so it happened: Twain died on 21 April 1910, the day after another perihelion of the comet.

The Slaughterhouse of Chicago, USA. Built in 1865 and in operation for 106 years.

By 1900, the 2km² slaughterhouse housed 300,000 pigs, 75,000 cattle, 80,000 sheep and 6,000 horses. With the spread of direct transport from farmers by refrigerated trucks, the need for centralisation disappeared, and in 1971 the slaughterhouse was closed and an industrial park was built in its place.

A sailor survived on a raft in the ocean for 133 days with no food or water

In 1942 a German submarine sank a British merchant ship. A Chinese sailor serving on the ship managed to jump overboard in his waistcoat before finding a loose raft in the water. The raft quickly ran out of water and biscuits.

The sailor, drifting on a raft across the Atlantic Ocean, collected rainwater and ate raw fish, which he caught with a makeshift fishing rod, and once he managed to catch a seagull and sucked the blood out of it. So he swam for 133 days until the raft hit the Brazilian coast

A bronze memorial to the 82 children killed in the village of Lidice in the former Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic).

The 82 children, 42 girls and 40 boys, died in the Chelmno gas chamber. There was a death camp there, in fact the first German camp set up specifically for mass murder.
