2022-02-19 21:21:22 Challenges

Most interventions are focused on keeping children in home communities instead of actively addressing
the challenges faced by those who are already on the move.

The report sees the growth of slums and informal settlements where schools are often scarce — due to
migration as a challenge.

“18% of the students displaced by a riverfront project in Ahmedabad dropped out and an additional
11% had lower attendance.

There is only one urban planner for every 1,00,000 people in India, while there are 38 for every 1, 00,000
in the United Kingdom.

The degree and evolution of refugee inclusion in national education vary across displacement contexts,
affected by geography, history, resources and capacity.

2022-02-19 21:21:22 MIGRATION, DISPLACEMENT AND EDUCATION

Current scenario

India is home to some of the world’s largest internal population movements alongside China.

Children of seasonal workers are often denied their right to education. About 80% of temporary migrant
children in seven Indian cities lacked access to education near work sites.

Among youth aged 15 to 19 who have grown up in a rural household with a seasonal migrant, 28% identified
as illiterate or had an incomplete primary education.

In the period between 2001 and 2011, inter-state migration rates doubled in India and an estimated 9
million migrated between States annually from 2011 to 2016.

2022-02-19 13:00:44 Ways to tackle challenges in adoption of AM technologies in India

Government policies and incentives:

Preferential Market Access Policy should be adopted and incentives to be provided to support local additive manufacturers.

International R&D Partnership: by attracting foreign leaders to set up their base in India and simultaneously promote
Indian ancillary companies through
bilateral and multilateral collaboration.

Skilling &Upskilling: Effective measures must be adopted to proactively provide skilling and upskilling programmes on AM to ensure a technically competent, readily available workforce.

2022-02-19 13:00:44 Potential impact of Additive Manufacturing over different sectors

Economic impact: AM technologies will enable fast and cost-effective manufacturing. It will allow participation in the global value chain thereby developing new technology-driven industries and jobs.

Environmental impact: AM facilitates development of new materials and technologies which are more energy and resource efficient to alleviate its carbon footprint and increases its energy security.

Innovation Diffusion: It allows for removing design constraints without the risk of high expenditure
thereby boosting innovation in the
product development process.

For e.g.:

Production of customized implants and reduction in healthcare costs due to minimal re-intervention enabled by accurate diagnosis.

2022-02-19 13:00:43 About Additive Manufacturing (AM)/ 3D printing

It is defined as the technology that constructs a three-dimensional object from a digital 3D model or a
Computer-aided design (CAD) model by adding material layer by layer.

The addition of material can happen in multiple ways, namely power deposition, resin curing, filament fusing.

The deposition and solidification are controlled by computer to create a three-dimensional object.

Traditional manufacturing methods, by contrast, are subtractive in nature.

Subtractive manufacturing involves removing parts of a block of material in order to create the
desired shape.

Cutting wood into useful shapes, for instance, is a very simple example of a subtractive process.

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING/3D PRINTING

About National Strategy on Additive manufacturing (AM)

Strategy aims to promote various verticals of the AM (also known as 3D printing), including machines,
materials, software and designs
to leverage the untapped
business opportunities that will
unfold in the near future.

This will further accelerate
execution of recommendations
as laid out in the National
Electronics Policy, 2019.

Its objectives include:

Ensure creation of a
sustainable ecosystem for
the AM industry to compete
globally.

Position India as a global
Innovation and Research
hub for AM.

Promote creation of Indian
IPR.

Strategy envisages:

Creation of National AM
Centre: to position India at
the forefront of development of AM technologies and address legal & ethical issues arising out of it.

Engineering curriculum suitable for bachelor and master degrees to be developed through in
consultation with Industry and be introduced in ITI’s /NIT’s/IITs.

Remembering one of the greatest freedom fighter Shri Chhatrapati ShivajiMaharaj Ji on his birth anniversary. He valiantly fought against the invader to protect our motherland. He had a vision for Hindvi Swaraj. A Maratha warrior who has inspired millions of us.
