High energy prices contributed to runaway inflation, prompting central banks to raise rates and increasing investors’ fears that growth will slow. Last week, WTIUSD topped $111 a barrel after four weeks of gains, the longest upsurge since February. Due to that, gasoline and diesel prices hit record highs ahead of the start of the US auto season, which starts in about a week. Also, this weekend, Saudi Arabia, one of the world's top oil producers, has signaled that it will continue to support Russia's role in the OPEC+ group, undermining the US efforts to isolate Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, China has imposed a series of painful restrictions to quell Covid-19 outbreaks. The additional soaring in oil prices was caused by the weakening dollar, which made raw materials cheaper for holders of other currencies.

In the third quarter of 2022, the inflation rate of New Zealand increased by 6.9%. The central bank is expected to boost the rate by 50 basis points to 2%. Last time, NZDUSD started to rise right before the rate hike but fell back. A scalper could earn around 100 points on the retracement.

The preliminary GDP is the broadest measure of economic activity. A significant increase in its figures shows that the economy is expanding. Last time, the release came out in line with the forecasts. It rose by 7% and pulled the EURUSD lower to the support.

The PCE Price Index measures goods and services consumed by individuals. On April 29, Core PCE rose by 0.3%. The USD dipped lower on the announcement but recovered, overshadowed by the weaker-than-expected Chicago PMI (56.4 vs. 62.1).
