2021-08-04 03:30:04 Bugga Ramalingeswara Swamy temple is a Siva shrine situated on the southern bank of the Penna river in Tadipatri, Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, India.

It was built between 1490 and 1509 by Pemmasani Ramalinga Nayudu I, a Pemmasani Nayaka chieftain of the Gutti-Gandikota region during the reign of the Vijayanagara Empire.

The presiding deity is a linga, considered to be ‘swayambhu’
(naturally occurring or self originated). The temple has seven small independent pillars in front of the Vishnu shrine and when struck they produce 'saptaswara' (the seven musical notes). The gopurams of the temple are unfinished and were described by architectural historian James Anderson as ‘wonders’.

2021-07-30 09:30:05 Sri Govindeshwara and Nageshwara temples, Koravangala.

Visited Sri Bucheshwara temple in Korvangala last weekend. The experience was so good; perfect weather, no crowd. We had the temple to ourselves. The happiness didn't last long as our eyes sighted this abandoned temple right opposite this majestic temple. It was so disheartening to see the plight of the temple. According to the inscriptions, those temples are Govindeshwara and Nageshwara temples built by Govinda and Naka, the elder brothers of Buchiraja.

The temples are being used by people for the wrongful deeds. We could find liquor bottles, playing cards, used water bottles, smoked cigarettes and even condoms. As ardent fans and admirers of Hoysala architecture, it was heart-wrenching to see the works of great artists abused and not respected.

2021-07-30 05:30:02 A rare and beautifully carved early Vijayanagara period Lakshminarayana vigraha found near Shettihalli in Tumkur district, Karantaka while digging the ground for underground drainage work. The Invaders have damaged the Vigraha at the time of invasion. Notice the Dashavataras carved on the Prabhavali. The locals have kept the Vigraha in front of a renovating ancient temple.

The Chennakesava temple is a fine example of fine quality work of art in stone. There are more than 80 Madanika sculptures in the temple, dancing, hunting, standing under canopies of trees and so on. The 4 Madanika figures (striking elegant dancing poses) on the wonderfully engraved columns of Navaranga are unique creations of Hoysala workmanship. The Garbhagriha is stellar in shape and its zigzag walls make the figures of 24 forms of Vishnu look different at different times of the day due to light. The temple was built by master craftsmen – Dasoja and Chavana, a father and son duo, hailing from Balliganve, a centre of Kalyana Chalukya art in Shimoga district. It is said that Shantaladevi, the accomplished queen of King Vishnuvardhana is the model for one of the sculptures in the vavaranga- Darpana Sundari.
