Centrelia is a ghost town, aka "Silent Hill".

The main activity of the locals was the coal and anthracite industry. The existence of coal mining lasted until the 1960s. But then most of the companies went out of business

After the mines were emptied, some pits were used to burn garbage. One day something went wrong...

Firefighters couldn't deal with the fire, which rapidly began to spread through the tunnels.

For an entire year, the authorities tried to cover up the fire, which was still burning. In 1963, they turned to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. There were plans to build a tunnel to get the fire out, but the project was not covered by the administration. The city was left alone with an unextinguished fire.

The ominous reputation of this forest dates back to World War I. According to legend, a shepherd named Bachu, who lived in the local village, was the first victim of this forest. One day, after herding a flock of 200 cattle through the forest, Bachu never came out.
Neither his footprints nor those of his flock of sheep were found.

Having tasted human blood, the forest, like a predator, demanded more and more victims.

So, for example, after 1945, a young teacher was found there; the unfortunate woman had completely lost her memory, to the point that she couldn't even remember her own name. And of course she could not answer the question of what happened to her.

The five-year-old girl ran into the woods chasing a butterfly and disappeared. A long search brought no success, however, five years later, the girl came out of the woods herself, wearing the same clothes, holding the same butterfly.

The little girl said that she had been in the woods for no more than 5 minutes...

Jacob's Well, USA

Jacob's Well is an unusual underwater cave with a diameter of 4 m outcropping into one of the reservoirs in Wimberley, Texas.

It reaches vertically into the depths of the cliffs several tens of meters deep, before branching out into underwater passages that run in unknown directions.

Despite its luminous biblical name, Jacob's Well has already claimed the lives of eight divers who attempted to explore its depths.

Scuba divers tell us that there are several grottos under the water, one after the other. Grottoes are connected by very narrow passages, where it is easy to get stuck, and in one of them the bottom is covered with layers of limestone and if they are stirred up, it will be almost impossible to find the way out of the underwater trap.

No one has yet been able to fully explore the farthest reaches of the underwater network of caves.

Rumor has it, however, that if one jumps into the Well once and then leaves and does not return, one will have good luck.

Dog Cave, Italy

Not far from Naples is the infamous Dog Cave and the place has been known for a long time.

In the twentieth century, people talked about evil spirits hiding from the sunlight in the darkness of the dungeon, which choked the dogs. In some ways the superstitions were true. Dogs were indeed strangled, but not by evil forces, but by a natural anomaly.

Today it is known that the Dog Cave produces carbon dioxide, which accumulates 80 cm above the ground. A man's head is in the air layer, and the dog's head is in an atmosphere of deadly gas. And if the dog is not picked up or carried out into the fresh air in time, it will die...

Because of a series of bad events, the ill-fated cave is a popular tourist attraction. But many people forget that it is dangerous not only for dogs, but also for a person who, for example, sat down to tie his shoelaces or take a few good shots...

"The Wave", USA.

Incredible in its beauty The Wave is a natural gallery of sand and rock, which is located along the borders of the U.S. states of Utah and Arizona.

Scientists say that these fantastic mountain formations formed over 200 million years from the sand dunes, gradually transforming into a harder rock. The effects of wind and rain have caused their bizarre shapes.

Despite their age, the "peaks of small waves" inside the gallery are very fragile. That is why it is not easy to get here - the local authorities give out no more than 20 entrance tickets a day, which, in addition, must be won in a lottery...

Danakil Hollow, Ethiopia

In order to see the fantastic ethereal scenery, you do not need to prepare for a flight into space. It is enough to come to the border of Ethiopia and Eritrea, where the Danakil Depression is located. This place is full of mysteries, which scientists still can't figure out.

For example, the water that comes to the surface through lava-heated rock layers has a unique composition. A fluid as rich in inorganic compounds was found on Earth only at the dawn of life.

Unusual ecosystems have also been identified here. Microorganisms live in an almost boiling liquid saturated with acids, sulfur and copper salts in various combinations. Such extreme conditions are not uncommon on other planets, but for Earth the emergence of life in such a hostile environment is extremely atypical.

The remains of Australopithecus afarensis found here can also "boast" of the Danakil Depression. They are estimated to be 3.2 million years old.

Zhangye Danxia Rainbow Mountains, China

Zhangye Danxia National Geopark is one of the most beautiful landscape formations in China.

The park is famous for its unusual colored cliffs, which have acquired their strikingly colorful colors from the layering of multicolored sandstone deposits that have been eroded over millions of years.

China's colored mountains are mottled with fanciful patterns reminiscent of sea waves.

Truly, Nature is the best and most magical architect!

The Ringing Rocks, USA

An amazing natural phenomenon in the Delaware River Valley in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania can be seen as well as heard.

The behavior of the unusual rocks, which locals call the Garden of Stones, and those inclined to mysticism call the Devil's Ring, is indeed capable of baffling anyone.

The fact that the Ringing Rocks are able to make sounds, and in a fairly wide range. It's also striking that both huge boulders and very small stones can ring here.

The songs of the Ringing Rocks are not just sounds of wind in the cracks, but loud, sharp sounds that resemble more than anything else ... bells ringing! In this desolate place there is no place for church bells to ring, and should we be surprised that scientists have not yet figured out where these strange sounds come from?
Especially since quite similar cliffs are habitually silent, and the Ringing Rocks have been singing their song for more than a hundred years!

Halong Bay, Vietnam

Halong Bay, an astonishingly beautiful and harmonious creation of nature, is located in the Gulf of Tonkin and is rightfully considered one of the main pearls of Vietnam.

A beautiful legend is told by the Vietnamese themselves about the origin of Halong Bay islands.

Once, in order to protect the people from the oppression of the Chinese invaders, the gods have sent from the sky to help the Vietnamese warriors family dragons.
In the mythology of China, Japan and Vietnam, dragons are noble, wise and friendly creatures on the side of good.
Angry dragons defender spewed precious stones from their mouths at the invaders, falling into the bay and turned into rocks and islands, which crashed the enemy fleet.

Victory, of course, went to the owners of the bay, and the dragons themselves forever fell in love with the area and stayed here to live.

The lines of the cliffs really do resemble the crest of a giant dragon's back out of the water in places.

Great Zimbabwe, Africa

In a country where people still live in mud huts, the Great Zimbabwe Fortress, whose walls are about 5 m thick and 10 m high, erected in 1130, is a delight and amazement.

The ancient city was supposedly built from several million blocks of stone, so carefully fitted that they are still standing today without mortar!

What is also surprising is that all the structures are not rectangular, but consist of flowing curves and ovals.

Scientists are still arguing about the purpose of the huge cone-shaped tower, which has no windows or doors.
Perhaps this mysterious tower once served as a haven for the creator of all things on this earth, the supreme god Mwari?
