Jacob's Well is an unusual underwater cave with a diameter of 4 m outcropping into one of the reservoirs in Wimberley, Texas.

It reaches vertically into the depths of the cliffs several tens of meters deep, before branching out into underwater passages that run in unknown directions.

Despite its luminous biblical name, Jacob's Well has already claimed the lives of eight divers who attempted to explore its depths.

Scuba divers tell us that there are several grottos under the water, one after the other. Grottoes are connected by very narrow passages, where it is easy to get stuck, and in one of them the bottom is covered with layers of limestone and if they are stirred up, it will be almost impossible to find the way out of the underwater trap.

No one has yet been able to fully explore the farthest reaches of the underwater network of caves.

In order to see the fantastic ethereal scenery, you do not need to prepare for a flight into space. It is enough to come to the border of Ethiopia and Eritrea, where the Danakil Depression is located. This place is full of mysteries, which scientists still can't figure out.

For example, the water that comes to the surface through lava-heated rock layers has a unique composition. A fluid as rich in inorganic compounds was found on Earth only at the dawn of life.

Unusual ecosystems have also been identified here. Microorganisms live in an almost boiling liquid saturated with acids, sulfur and copper salts in various combinations. Such extreme conditions are not uncommon on other planets, but for Earth the emergence of life in such a hostile environment is extremely atypical.
