The third Turkish presidential candidate is Sinan Ogan who is performing surprisingly well, until not he attracted 5% of the votes. Ogan is an ultra-nationalist politician close to Russia, and he received his PhD at MGIMO in Moscow and wrote a book "Orange Revolutions" and his ideas of Eurasianism allies with that of Alexander Dugin. If Turkey goes for the second round of presidential elections, Ogan's votes will be crucial.

2023-05-14 16:37:06 My article "After #Nagorno_Karabakh #Iran May be Next" which was published in the @ArmenianWeekly has been translated into Persian and published in Iranian #Azariha media. @Azariha_org

Today, the political future of the region will be decided in #Turkey. As much as its foreign policy, Turkey's #domestic_policy also concerns me and its local dynamics will reflect on its relations with the collective West, #Russia, #Iran, the Turkic states, and the #Arab World and beyond. For this reason, analyzing the elections from the "cliché" "right vs left" battleground is not useful. Personally, I am more interested in the parliamentary election and its outcome because no matter who wins the presidential elections will be dependent on the power dynamics of Turkey's National Assembly as new parties will have access and some traditional parties may be left out. De facto, irrespective of who becomes the President, the system will shift towards a semi-presidential system. Strong opposition in parliament (irrespective of who becomes the opposition(s)) and a strong President but dependent on an unstable National Assembly where small parties may shift loyalties based on leadership interests. Let's wait & see.

My article on the "Nemesis" monument in #Armenia and #Turkey's reaction:
"But was Turkey’s reaction and the closure of its airspace to Armenian airlines directly related to the opening of the monument? Of course not! Turkey’s reaction should be viewed from the lens of the presidential and parliamentary election processes as President #Erdogan is eager to attract the votes of nationalists. That’s why a day before Turkey’s decision to close its airspace, Azerbaijani President #Ilham_Aliyev visited Turkey and announced his support for the incumbent. One of #Azerbaijan’s major news agencies Report.az published an op-ed glorifying Erdogan and his era. Aliyev is well aware that Erdogan’s departure would isolate him and put him completely at #Moscow’s mercy. Moreover, his public support for Erdogan has created tension with the joint opposition candidate, the Kemalist #Kemal_Kılıçdaroğlu."

The hard copy of my policy brief "The Political Future of the #Armenian Community in Fractured #Lebanon" published at Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI). Where I critically assessed and raised recommendations related to the political situation of the community, communitarianism and addressed the gap between the leadership and the mass.

#Breaking: Muharrem Ince - one of the three opposition presidential candidates - withdrew from the #Turkish_Presidential_race. This may increase the chances of victory for the main opposition candidate #Kemal_Kılıçdaroğlu against President #Erdogan. #Turkey_votes_2023
