Mishka the otter is the world's first sea otter to have been diagnosed with a respiratory disease.

She's been taught to use an inhaler (same one humans use) to cope with her asthma.

Giant otters are not only large in size but also large in appetite.
They eat up to 3kg (7 lbs) of food a day.

Giant otters aren't exactly picky when it comes to food either.
They eat everything from fish to anacondas and even small crocodilians (see picture).

Nothing to see here, just an otter in a ford, hating bikes and joggers.

Otters are found everywhere around the globe, with the exception of 2 continents.
Antarctica, and to no one's shock, Australia.

Giant otters are the most vocal species of otter. Adult giant otters have been found to have 22 distinct types of vocalisation, ranging from snorts to squeaks.

Giant otters live in groups. When they scream together it forms a sort of "thumbprint" of the group called a chorus.

That chorus is so specific to the group that you can identify the group by hearing it's chorus.

So in short, giant otters have their own theme song.

According to Zoroastrianism, the otter is the holiest of dogs, and is aptly called the "water-dog".

They say that 1000 dog souls is need to make a single water-dog.

Also, killing a water-dog brings forth a drought that dries up pastures. The drought lasts until the murderer of the water-dog has been killed and a dog sacrificed.

1. Most river otter species are monogamous and mate for life.

2. They were hunted throughout history, yet they persevered and are now restoring their population.

3. They're incredibly adaptable, throw them on an island with not a lot of fish to eat and they'll learn to hunt rabbits. As is the case for the otters living on the Shetland Islands.

4. Imagine a soft animal, in fact, an animal with the softest fur in the animal kingdom. Alright? Now, if you didn't immediately think of a sea otter, get out. They in fact have the densest fur in the animal kingdom, double layered and filled with air.

5. They thrive in every environment. Cold? No problem. Hot? No problem. Which is why they're all over the world, except Australia, no one can survive in Australia.

6. Sea otters are very violent when mating, sometimes even forcing themselves on their partner. No beta otters here, only true chads.

7. Imagine having looks so threating that you strike fear into the hearts of your enemies purely by existing. That's the daily life of a giant otter, some might call them ugly, some might call them demons, they're both wrong. Giant otters are in fact, based.

8. They have built-in storage. Sea otters have a pouch in their armpit where they keep their weapon, a big rock they personally chose for maximum damage with minimum effort.

9. River otters are very territorial, they will fight will all their might to defend their property. You will never see a single invader on otter territory.

10. Last but not least, they're cute. Adorable yet dangerous. Is there anything more based than that?
