The 4G Team has gone through the baptism of fire and done well, protecting both lives and economy, and ensuring our children's education was not disrupted.

Lawrence Wong has a strong team to support him. We're truly thankful to PM Lee for being so thoughtful about the process and for making unity a priority in this selection process.

Benz added that Hong Kongers do complain as well, but they are generally "more reasonable".

"People in Hong Kong don't enjoy much welfare, so they aren't as spoiled. Singaporeans are too fortunate," he said.

That aside, Benz also speculated that Singaporeans' love for complaining could be exacerbated due to them being "more knowledgeable" compared to Hong Kongers.

This is why alternative media like TOC and Wake Up Singapore, and hardcore opposition supporters always seek to erode public trust in the government, and in public institutions with fake news.

The recent fake news concerning KKH is an example. There were many misleading stories in the past on CPF matters which CPFB had to respond each time with clarifications by providing details of each case. Despite this, TISG chose to republish such old stories as a distraction when the COP on Raeesah Khan was ongoing. TOC published fake news about police harassing seniors during the pandemic and refused to apologise to the son of the senior who was exploited.

These numerous fake news are attempts to erode trust.

TRUST is something very precious and we must take care to guard it well and build on it by ensuring that only good and honest people are elected into government. It starts at the top. Open / Comment

Trust in the Govt is key to the Govt’s handling of the crisis – trust that the Govt has the best interest of Singapore and Singaporeans at heart, and trust that the Govt is competent and will make the right decisions on behalf of Singaporeans. Singaporeans displayed that trust when they accepted the government’s advice and decisions, and complied willingly with strict SMMs, and came forward to get vaccinated.

"We have made significant progress in our fight against COVID-19. We are getting closer to the finishing line but still, we cannot be sure that we are almost arriving because the virus has surprised us many times and will surely do that again. But overall, we are in a much better position. We can be quietly confident of dealing with whatever may come, and continuing to progress towards the new normal.”
