Singapore ranks 1st in financial stewardship and overall 3rd in government effectiveness in global ranking

Singapore is TOP in financial stewardship, market attractiveness, and helping people to rise, and overall 3rd in government effectiveness.

The report says that decades of strong financial stewardship have afforded Singapore the wherewithal to soften the blow of the pandemic for businesses and households, through a range of assistance schemes. It concludes that Singapore’s use of resources to mitigate the pandemic while building capacity for future growth speaks well of its long term planning.

If you have any sympathy, sympathise with the families that suffer because of someone's drug addiction.

In Singapore, the government spares no effort to rehabilitate drug addicts, providing holistic support to them and their families.

Nagaenthran: mentally-disabled or capable of deliberate manipulation and evasion?

Intellectually disabled? No, not according to Nagaenthran's own psychiatrist. Nagaenthran’s own psychiatrist, called by the Defence on Nagaenthran’s behalf, agreed in Court that Nagaenthran was not intellectually disabled.

He took actions to avert a search when he was stopped at the Woodlands checkpoint. He changed his testimony in the course of time to find the best defence to help himself. He continously and deliberately lowered his educational qualifications at each interview to make himself less smart than he really is. He was able to plan his call and visit schedules in prison.

It's important to be informed by facts and not swayed by those with an agenda. These activists and their international friends should be taken to task for taking the family of Nagaenthran on a roller-coaster ride, giving them false hopes. The evidence is clear as daylight. You can be sure that when the dust has settled, Nagaenthran's family will be forgotten by these 'caring' activists who will also go into hibernation waiting for the next opportunity.

He may have a low IQ but he was capable of giving his testimony and changing it as well over the years. He worked independently, not under supervision. He had a girlfriend. He claimed he carried the drug because the mastermind threaten to kill his girlfriend. Then he changed his testimony and claimed he carried the drugs to pay off his debts. Finally, he claimed he did not know what was in the bundle. In all these versions, he was clearly thinking and looking for the best defence for being caught.

In prison, he was able to plan his daily visit and call schedules, understand that his sentence was to be carried out soon and choose prison officers to care for his needs in the time leading to his execution.

Drugs destroys lives and ruin many families. It isn't just the addicts, their lived one's suffer as well.

Death penalty in Singapore for drug trafficking is a well known fact. Every drug trafficker tries to smuggle drugs into Singapore with their eyes wide open. They choose to take the risk for money. They should be ready to face the consequence of their choice.

Lessons from Sri Lanka on bad politics, mismanagement and populism

The path to ruination starts with bad politics. In Sri Lanka, rampant corruption undermines rule of law. Instead of sustainable sources of revenue for spending, Sri Lanka borrowed like no tomorrow from capital markets while taxes were slashed. By 2020, nearly 70% of government revenue was going toward debt interest payments. When the door to the capital markets slammed shut after Sri Lanka's sovereign rating was downgraded to junk, the country dipped into its reserves to spend instead of restructuring and living within its means.

Singapore’s sound fiscal policy and strong reserves are the results of financial discipline and prudence that the PAP Government imposed on themselves. Can we sustain this momentum? Can Singapore resist the march of populism from the Opposition?

Sgt Choong K-Ron, Sgt Tan Wei Jie and Special Constable Muhammad Amru Abd Rahman crawled through thick smoke to save a 86-year-old grandmother from a fire incident.

They were on patrol nearby when they were alerted to a fire in a house.

The house was shrouded in thick black smoke. Family members had already evacuagted but their grandmother was stuck on the second floor.

Sgt Tan and Sgt Choong hurried into the burning house, while another NSF on their team, Special Constable (SC) Muhammad Amru Abd Rahman, 21, managed the crowd outside.

They made it up to the second floor, but unable to breathe, they retreated. Sgt Choong then suggested crawling through the smoke, recalling fire safety tips he had learnt in the past.

Crawling on all fours, they saw the feet of the grandmother staggering towards them. So they quickly stood up, grabbed her and helped her down the stairs of the house. It is understood that the grandmother is well.

For SC Amru, who completed eight months of police training earlier in April, this was an eventual patrol.

He said: "That was my first shift ever, and honestly, it was scary. But seeing the senior officers run in so bravely gave me courage."

2022-04-26 07:05:52 Armchair expert Goh Meng Seng claimed that vaccines have failed to protect people. In fact, people will soon be dying from vaccines. He pointed to the excess deaths in UK and elsewhere as evidence.

Definition of excess deaths. In normal circumstances, a certain number of deaths from all causes are expected in a given period. In a pandemic, the number of deaths in that period will be higher. The difference between the number of deaths during a pandemic and during normal circumstances gives the excess deaths.

The excess deaths are due to the pandemic, not vaccines.

We should expect the number of deaths to increase when there is a pandemic. If the total number of deaths during a pandemic is the same as the number of deaths in normal circumstances, then we can't be in any pandemic or dangerous time, right folks?

GMS does not need to look far to know that vaccines make a big difference especially for the older folks.

Honh Kong has recorded 1,202,292 infections and 9,267 deaths.

Singapore has recorded 1,184,226 infections and 1,331 deaths.

The numbers speak for themselves.

At least 96% of our population are fully vaccinated with the majority boosted as well. Many seniors have recovered at home because they are protected by vaccines. Even high-risk seniors have recovered because they are vaccinated and boosted. Deaths had been greatly reduced, thanks to vaccines and all the measures taken by the taskforce to ensure a healthcare system that is able to give best care to those who develop a serious disease from the infection.

As expected, masks will be the last measure to go.

From tomorrow, 26 April, you just need to make sure that you wear a mask when you are indoors. Almost everything else is back to normal. Almost. No cap on group sizes. No capacity limits.. No safe distancing.

What do fewer restrictions mean? It means you have to exercise greater personal as well as social responsibility. That's another step towards living with COVID-19. It means we've got to grow up and take ownership of our responsibilities.

The Independent Singapore (TISG) pofma-ed over deceptive clickbait article on K Shanmugam

TISG had published an article with a deceptive clickbait headline - “K Shanmugam says he may step down as Singapore’s Minister of Law and Home Affairs”. The falsity was repeated in the first paragraph of the article which stated that the Minister “revealed” in an interview with Vanakkam Malaysia that he may step down as Singapore’s Minister for Law and Home Affairs, but gave no specific time as to when he might do so.

As required by the Correction Directions under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA), TISG and Mr Toh Han Shih, the author of the article, must publish a correction notice alongside the posts.
