We can stop hate speech from physically coming to Singapore. In other words, we can stop the man from coming to Singapore. BUT we cannot fully stop what comes through online.

This is why stopping hate and countering divisive forces is everyone's responsibility. We need to be discerning. We need to counter hate speech online when we see it.

2022-06-03 04:24:48 Education Minister Chan Chun Sing inspires and challenges our students. We are confident our students will rise to the occasion.

"Every generation will have its fair share of challenges. Every generation will have crises to overcome, and this will be the same for your generation.

We just need to look back on our 57-year history to draw inspiration from what we have overcome and achieved.

In our early nation-building years in the 1960s to the 1970s, the founding generations went through Konfrontasi, the British Withdrawal East of Suez, two global oil crises and the Vietnam War to name a few.

From the 1980s to the 2000s, we underwent our most serious economic recession post-independence, the 1991 hijack of SQ117, the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997 amongst others.

And of course, in the last 20 years, we had to overcome SARS, the Global Financial Crisis and now the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each generation had their fair share of challenges, each generation innovated and emerged stronger. And indeed, "Emerging Stronger" was our rallying call through the pandemic."

There's no Islamophobia. There's just an intolerance of hate speech.

We have something special in Singapore that we guard zealously and that
religious harmony. It has allowed everyone the freedom to practise their individual faiths.

Every generation can, will and must be a pioneering generation, says Education Minister Chan Chun Sing to students at the Pre-University Seminar.

And that's so true if you think about how fast the world is changing and how we need to keep re-inventing ourselves.

At the seminar, Minister Chan encouraged students to take on the mantle to lead Singapore to SG100.

Engaging S'poreans a hallmark of 4G Leadership, says Minister Desmond Lee.. And indeed it is.

The 4G Team is known to consult widely on many issues and topics. The white paper on women's development is a clear example.

Minister for National Development Desmond Lee, 45, is well known in nature and heritage circles for his consultative approach and willingness to engage with interest groups to iron out thorny issues between development and conservation.

Singapore Together. This is the 4G's approach to nation building.

Extremism: easier to keep the man out than the message out in this social media age.

Each of us thus has a duty to call out and engage such contrarian narratives wherever there are found, public or private. We cannot rely on the government alone to manage difficult conversations and be the sole arbiter of conflicts, nor should we expect the government to tackle such issues alone.

We live in an unsettled world with many disruptions. We don't know how the war in Ukraine will turn out, whether it will escalate further still. Or worse, whether a world war will be triggered.

Global inflation is a serious problem which can lead to worldwide depression. Depression or not, it is predicted that many countries will suffer from food shortages this year.

Will there be another pandemic? Monkey pox is spreading rapidly in Europe. It is unlikely to be a pandemic like Covid-19 though WHO put the risk at 'moderate'.

In this unsettled world where geopolitical tensions see no sign of abatement, Singapore needs a strong and capable government to lead us and navigate the world.

The 4G Team led by Minister Lawrence Wong has been tested and stretched during this pandemic. They have proven themselves capable of tough decisions.

To put it bluntly, there is no other team besides the PAP that can lead in this troubled world.

Food for thought.

Food resilience is not something we start thinking about now. It's something we have been doing for several years.

We live in an unsettled world, and we must expect disruptions. There are disruptions happening now that are more than just about price adjustments. Think about it..

That's how leadership transition has been like for the PAP. When a prime minister steps down, he does not see it as the end of his responsibility. Every prime minister has made it his responsibility to ensure that his successor succeeds because this is about Singapore, an enduring Singapore. .

RESILIENCE is written in the Singaporean DNA. Being flexible and adaptable, and staying united are what make us resilient. This has been the way we overcome challenges.
