DID THE EGG-CHOLESTEROL PANIC REDUCE FOOD SELF SUFFICIENCY?

Many of us have recently enjoyed sourcing our own food, spurred on by lockdowns.

We figured out they were trying to starve us so we got ahead of the 8-ball.

Home laid eggs are particularly delicious. I used to limit my egg consumption because cholesterol. Then it turned out to be a giant fraud, so I eat eggs most days & haven’t looked back.

People like us are reacquiring or learning the skill of growing our own food, because we were conditioned not to. Many factors hindered the transmission of our grandparents’ skills and habits down to us, but perhaps the belief that eggs were bad for us played a part in letting the ubiquity of chooks in the backyard slip?

Reduce easy access to daily protein and you have just one factor among many in the soying down of our people, and making a population vulnerable to disruptions to global supply chains.

Moral of the story, grow your own food and get some chooks. Winter is coming.

"Kids have a bronchial disorder and youre worried but you have nothing in the medicine cabinet and no medicines in the house; you check your herbal remedies book and a remedy pops up "Marshmellow" well you planted that and have plenty of leaves sitting there to make a tea."
You can even add a sign to the back wall of your medicine cabinet that simply says "have you checked the herbal garden?" as a reminder.
Its the small steps that bring you closer to independence

So here is the list:

Alfalfa/ Lucern (Medicago sativa)
Aloe vera (Aloe vera)
Barberry (Berberis vulgaris)
(Replacement for Goldenseal)
Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus)
Bitter Melon (Momordica charantia)
Bitter Orange (Citrus aurantium)
Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus)
Blessed Thistle/ St Mary’s Thistle/ Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum)
Basil (Ocimum basilicum)
Belladonna (Atropa belladonna) :
!!tropane containing use with care or not at all!!
Brahmi (Bacopa monerii)
Borage (Borago officinalis)

We all know how vital a great seed list is for the vege garden and removing the strangling hold the supermarket goblins have over our lives, but i think one thing we gloss over a fair amount starting out, is our medicinal herbs and alike.

With the help of a friend, Bruiser, we put together a fairly comprehensive shopping list to help you in your consoomer efforts.
This is merely a list of helpful healing it is up to you to go further and do your due diligence (Penelope Ody and Michael Wink are two great authors on the subject) on what they do, but just having them sitting there growing is the first step.
Each time your sending away for your vege seeds throw a couple of these into the ground so in those SHTF scenarios or even slightly less tragic "someone shat on the floor" scenarios you are a little bit more prepared.
