A miniature nuclear reactor for a single city

The designers of the startup NuScale Power presented the idea of a modular nuclear reactor with enough power for a small city.

The reactor is so small (no more than two buses) that it does not require huge protective enclosures or even an exclusion zone. And the design does not differ much from the standard one. It is just optimized for maximum efficiency and safety. And the modularity of such reactors will make it possible to create power plants of any capacity.

The project has already received approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to build a test plant in Idaho, which is scheduled to start up in 2026.

U-Safe self-propelled lifebuoy

U-Safe is a development of the Portuguese company Noras Performance.

The main idea of the designers was to deliver the lifeline exactly to the address - to the drowning person, excluding interfering factors in the form of currents, waves and wind.

U-Safe, with the help of two water-jet engines powered by electric motors, is able to get to the right place and deliver the rescued to the rescue boat or the shore. It is controlled remotely.

Pre-reality lenses

Mojo Vision has been developing lenses with AR technology, with the initial goal of helping visually impaired people interact with the world. However, such technology has much more to offer.

The prototype lenses are equipped with a dynamic display, sensors to track eye movements, a power source, and even a wireless connection to the Internet. At the same time, the lenses do not differ in appearance from the usual ones and are gas-tight.

The prototype of the first AR contact lenses passed a toxicological examination. Mojo Vision is expected to announce fully functional AR contact lenses as early as next year. Currently, there are no analogues on the market.

DroneDek smart mailboxes will revolutionize logistics

As it approaches the DroneDek, the drone navigates its GPS signal to hover precisely over the lid and transmit a security code.

The lid opens and the cargo is lowered inside on a tether. If the drone itself is depleted, it can land on the closed lid and recharge its batteries wirelessly.

If the cargo requires a special temperature setting - heat for cooked food or cold for medicine - it will be activated. There are UV lamps and ionizers inside the box to kill germs on the surface of the package.

Juno Rapid Chiller

The American company Matrix Industries has created a beverage cooler that uses neither freon, nor even the construction of conventional refrigerators.

The gadget uses the Peltier effect to cool the object. And the cooling rate is high. For example, a 340 ml water jar will cool in 1-2 minutes, and a 750 ml bottle in 3-5 minutes.

It is because of the rapid cooling Juno Rapid Chiller has received its second name "antimicrowave".

Drone with a grenade launcher

Engineers from the Norwegian company Nammo decided to equip the drone with a 66mm anti-tank grenade launcher.

The M72 grenade launcher proved its effectiveness during the Vietnam War and is still in production today. The drone-based grenade launcher will be able to destroy previously unattainable targets within 50 km range, for example by attacking them from above.

The developers suggest using a whole swarm of such combat vehicles in combat.

Orbi Prime glasses allow you to shoot 360-degree videos

The glasses use four HD cameras, automatic image stitching software and multi-layer stabilization to create 360-degree video in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second.

Using Wi-Fi, the glasses connect to the Orbi app to edit, view and share video files stored on a Micro SD card. Orbi is charged with a Micro USB cable and the glasses are expected to be able to record up to 90 minutes of video without recharging.
