The MoHUA and MoR jointly signed an MoU with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for Project SMART.

Details :

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and MoR (Ministry of Railways) jointly signed an MoU with JICA for ‘Station Area Development along Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail’- Project SMART.

Project SMART aims to develop surrounding areas of Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Railway (MAHSR) Stations to enhance accessibility and convenience of commuters and other stakeholders and to promote economic activities in the vicinity of the station areas.

The MoU was signed for four High Speed Rail Stations – Sabarmati and Surat in Gujarat, and Virar and Thane in Mumbai.

2023-06-06 10:36:01 Indian Coast Guard brings back Fishermen from Maldives

Details:

Indian Coast Guard rescued ten Indian fishermen from Maldivian waters to Vishakhapatnam, India.

The boat of these fishermen drifted to the Maldivian region due to engine failure.

ICGS Vigraha was used to bring back these fishermen.

2023-06-06 10:35:02 Meeting of Range Countries to Conserve Migratory Birds

Details :

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) along with the United Nations Environment Programme/ Convention on Migratory Species (UNEP/CMS) organized a meeting of Range Countries to strengthen conservation efforts for migratory birds and their habitats in the Central Asian Flyway (CAF).

The meeting was organized in New Delhi from 2nd to 4th May 2023.

The meeting was attended by eleven countries of the Central Asian Flyway including Armenia, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

It was also attended by representatives from various other organizations (both national and international).

The delegates agreed to the draft roadmap for updating the CMS CAF Action Plan.

The aim of the meeting is to develop a coordinated approach for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats.

Sagar Parikrama Phase V – from Raigad, Maharashtra to Canacona, Goa (17th – 19th May).

Details :

The Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has announced the commencement of Phase V of the Sagar Parikrama Phase initiative, from Raigad Maharashtra to Canacona, Goa (17th-19th May 2023).

The Sagar Parikrama journey aims to address the challenges faced by the fishermen and other stakeholders while uplifting their prospects through various fisheries schemes and programs like PMMSY (Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana) and KCC (Kisan Credit Cards).

India is the third-largest fish-producing and 2nd largest aquaculture-producing nation in the world.

Maharashtra has an extensive coastline – 720 km and contributes 82% to the state’s fish production.

Maharashtra state stands at rank 7 with about 5% share in the country’s fish production.

Goa has a coastline of 104 km where fish is a staple food for over 90% of its population, making it an integral part of Goan life and culture.

The Sagar Parikrama initiative started with the phrase “Kranti se Shanti” on 5th March 2022 from Mandvi, Gujarat.

It has successfully completed four phases covering 19 locations in Gujarat, Daman and Diu, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Sagar Parikrama initiative is a GoI commitment to improving the quality of life and economic well-being of coastal communities by striking a sustainable balance between the utilisation of marine fisheries resources for the nation’s food security and the protection of marine ecosystems.

Details :

The Defence Minister of the U.S. and Germany will be visiting New Delhi for bilateral talks with Indian Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh.

The meeting with the US Secretary of Defence will be held on 5th June 2023.

It will be held with Defence Minister of Germany on 6th June 2023.

The meetings will focus on a host of bilateral defence cooperation issues.

It will also cover industrial cooperation in the sector.
