2023-06-10 18:23:01 India – Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI)

India and Canada held the 6th MDTI in Ottawa, Canada.

Details :

The two nations
held their sixth Ministerial Dialogue on Trade & Investment (MDTI) in Ottawa, co-chaired by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Canada’s Minister of International Trade Mary Ng.

The MDTI can
play an important role to promote bilateral trade and investment ties and to strengthen economic cooperation between the two nations.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the rule-based, non-discriminatory, transparent, open and inclusive multilateral trading system
embodied by the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Despite the global challenges (Pandemic and Russia-Ukraine Conflict), India- Canada bilateral trade in goods reached about C$ 12 billion in 2022, a significant increase from the previous year and the bilateral services trade stood at C$ 8.9 billion in 2022.

Both countries made improvements to facilitate growth and attract investment.

Recognising the need for a comprehensive trade agreement to boost trade and investment flows, in 2022 India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) was relaunched for negotiations.

The centre launched Meri LiFE App., inspired by the Mission LiFE.

Details :

The Union Environment Minister, Shri Bupendra Yadav launched the ‘Meri LiFE’ App which aims to foster a nationwide movement for LiFE,
demonstrating the power of citizens in saving the environment.

The app is inspired by the Mission LiFE Initiative which aims to
promote mindful utilisation instead of wasteful consumption.

LiFE stands for ‘lifestyle for environment’.

Mission LIFE was launched by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on 20th October 2022 at Kevadia, Gujarat and focuses on bringing behavioural changes in individuals through simple easy-to-do actions.

The Union Environment Ministry serves as the coordinating authority for implementing Mission LiFE at the national level.

It has been
mobilising various stakeholders, including central ministries, state governments, institutions, and private organisations, to align their activities with LiFE and raise awareness about sustainable practices.

A month-long mass mobilisation drive is being conducted
to further promote LiFE and enhance nationwide advocacy.

It will culminate in a grand celebration of World Environment Day on June 5.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is ‘Solutions to Plastic Pollution’.

The Ministry has developed two dedicated portals for LiFE, in order to create a structured reporting format that can track the progress being made on LiFE.

The Mission LiFE Portal is open access and can be
used to download the 100+ creatives, videos, and knowledge materials that have been developed by the ministry for the LiFE mission.

The Meri LiFE Portal has been
developed for ministries and institutions to upload event reports and capture the progress of the mass mobilisation drive.

2023-06-09 07:29:01 Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi

The Ministry of Women and Child Development is launching ‘Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi’, an ECCE (Early Childhood Care and Education) program.

Details :

The Ministry of Women and Child Development is
launching “Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi” (on 10th May 2023), an ECCE program to ensure that India has the world’s largest, universal, high-quality pre-school networks envisaged under the National Education Policy (NEP, 2020).

As per the guidelines of the NEP, with Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi, the government has taken up the goal of strengthening the foundations of the country’s future generations.

Children’s development in every domain will be targetedcognitive, development, physical and motor development, socio-emotional-ethical development, artistic/cultural development and the development of communication and early language, literacy and numeracy.

All the states should follow the ECCE task force recommendations for a play-based, activity-based learning pedagogy, targeted specifically at the developmental milestones of 0-3-year-olds as well as 3-6-year-olds, including special support for Divyang children.

Through the ‘Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi’ ECCE policy, every child would be provided with two hours of high-quality preschool instruction on a daily basis.

To
give a push to ECCE, anganwadi centres will be reimagined and recalibrated to focus not only on the nutritional aspect of children and mothers but also on early learning of children under 6 years, particularly those under 3 years, which has proven to be a foundation for a child’s development.

It has been found that 85% of the brain development is achieved by the age of 6 years.
