2021-04-16 16:32:04 Scientists have long theorized about supermassive black holes wandering through space. For the first time, they could catch them in action!

Moving supermassive black hole was recently detected for the first time according to findings published in Astrophysical Journal. Sitting at the center of a galaxy named J0437+2456, it is located about 230 million light-years from Earth. Scientists have been observing the objects for 5 years. Nine out of ten supermassive black holes were at a standstill — but one appeared to be in motion.

The moving black hole of the J0437+2456 galaxy has a mass of about three million times that of our Sun. The speed of its movement is 170 thousand kilometers per hour. However, it’s still unknown what is causing the motion. Scientists have made two assumptions - either the two smaller black holes are being merged or the black hole may be part of a binary system. Gorgeous dunes at Mars' northern polar cap are formed into long and weaving lines by winds over time.

The image depicts an area about 30 kilometers wide, while the total scope of dunes at Mars' northern polar cap stretches out much farther.

The Red Planet does not actually have blue patches; the blue regions in this false-color image represent colder areas, and warmer features are seen as a yellowish color.

2021-04-14 12:16:42 It's been 40 years since NASA's first space shuttle launched into orbit. STS-1, aboard the orbiter Columbia, was launched April 12, 1981, from NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

The shuttle program was unique in that it allowed astronauts to land on the runway, unlike any other human program before it.

Its achievements have been remarkable: it helped complete the first phase of the ISS construction, launched famed observatories such as Hubble and Chandra, formed the backbone of the ISS program.
