In 1610, Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei revolutionized astronomy when he looked up at the skies using a telescope of his making. Ever wondered how the telescope looked like? Here!

Can humans survive on other celestial objects?

To answer this question, research teams must settle on other objects in the solar system for a while.

Humans can be protected from radiation (with improvements made to today's shielding technologies), low temperatures, and the vacuum of space, but they cannot be protected from local gravity. Even on a space station, despite exercises and medication, astronauts' muscles weaken and bones deteriorate.

Martian gravity is 38% of that of the Earth, and the lunar gravity is only 16.5%, it is hard to predict its long-term effect on human body. If humanity can establish a colony under lunar gravity, it will open up the possibility of creating cities not only on the Moon but also on satellites that have similar gravity.

The development would require the creation of low-gravity medicine, specialized pharmacology, and training. The creation of bases on asteroids, where gravity is only 1-2% of Earth's gravity, depends on our physical capabilities.

A team of astrophysics identify 14 stars that could be made of antimatter. Sounds like a beginning of a science fiction story, doesn't it?

What’s the biggest known thing in the Universe?
Meet the BOSS Great Wall! Yes, the name suits it quite well.
Actually, the BOSS was named after the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey—an international effort to map galaxies and quasars in the early universe.

The BOSS is an immense complex comprised of more than 800 galaxies that gravity has corralled into four superclusters, connected by massive filaments of hot gas.

This enormous collection of galaxies is more than one billion light-years across. So when a star is born on one side of the BOSS, it takes a billion years for the light to reach the other side.

The whole thing weighs 10,000 times as much as the Milky Way

The rapid progress of the space industry leads to lower medical requirements for people on space missions. It is assumed that soon almost anyone will be able to endure a flight without health hazards. The space tourism sector will begin to grow dramatically and, consequently, customer service specialists will be in demand as well.

4. Space garbage collector
Space debris already interferes with the ISS and operating satellites, the problem isn’t going anywhere. Therefore, the cleaning of our orbit from debris becomes more and more important. Many countries are now working on mechanized space scavengers, however, such equipment will require prompt maintenance. A space cleaning specialist will have to maintain the equipment, repair it and refuel it.

Professions of the Future

Today space is an everyday place of work for astronauts on missions, and progress in space exploration causes new professions to emerge. Here are 4 professions that would surprise science-fiction writers of the 20th century:

1. Space geologist
Spacegeology is an extremely promising field.
A specialist who searches for and extracts minerals in space will be an in-demand profession of the future.
Many asteroids close to Earth's orbit contain rare metals and minerals, whose amounts on our planet are slowly running low. Therefore, the challenge for humanity is to provide a new source.

2. Astrobiologist
A specialist is engaged in research of living systems and organisms in space. Also, astrobiologists are involved in providing life support for space crews during flights. People of this profession will study the physiological and genetic processes that occur in bacteria, animals’ or humans’ bodies in a space environment, as well as the development of sustainable space ecosystems.

When sunlight and raindrops combine to make a rainbow, they make a whole circle of light in the sky. However, it is quite rare to spot: sky conditions have to be just right for it, and the bottom part of a full-circle rainbow is usually blocked by the horizon. That’s why rainbows are commonly seen as arcs across the sky, not as circles.

Viewers on the ground can only see the light reflected by raindrops above the horizon. To see a full circle one has to get up very high. Even a high mountain won’t be enough.

The arc’s size also depends on the position of the Sun: the lower the sun is, the higher is the top of the rainbow.

So who are the lucky witnesses of a full-circle rainbow? Pilots!
