Temperatures on the moon are extreme, ranging from boiling hot to freezing cold. When sunlight hits the moon's surface, the temperature can reach 127 C. When the sun goes down, temperatures can dip to minus -173 C.
Daytime on one side of the Moon lasts about 13,5 days, followed by the 13.5 nights of darkness.
The Moon tilts on its axis about 1.54 degrees. To compare, Earth's axis is tilted 23.44 degrees. This means the moon does not have seasons like our planet does. However, because of the existing tilt, there are places at the lunar poles that never see daylight.
The moon has been drifting away from Earth for 4.5 billion years. While the speed of its retreat has varied over time, the Moon is now moving away from Earth at a rate of 3.8 centimetres per year.
