Your Monday Morning
Living Stones and the Blessing of the Land
This week’s message was brought to us by Pastor Zerubabbel Mengistu.
State of the NationThe situation in the country is unclear, and a lot of people are suffering. We have a word from the Lord concerning the country though. Like Isaac, who was carrying the promise of Israel but was barren, Ethiopia has the promise of God, but we have yet to see the promise come to fruition. (Genesis 30)
The Church is to BlamePeople like to put the blame on different politicians, people groups and countries. However, as believers we know it is the thief who is behind all the killing stealing and destroying. (John 10:10) Even though it is the thief behind what is going on in the nation, it is the job of the church to contend against the devil. Matthew 16:19 tells us that we have the keys to the Kingdom, and whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven. In Ethiopia the church is often praying and declaring the situation in the country bound and broken. So, where is the problem?
The problem is the disunity in the church. It is unity, not anointing or power, that brings the blessing. The Church of Christ is one. Therefore, when we are not unified, the church is just a show. It’s when believers are unified that the Church steps into its true role. That is how the blessing of God will be released.
The 12 StonesThere was also chaos in the time of Elijah. He proposed that everyone gather at Mt. Carmel where he would face off with the prophets of Baal. There he built an altar by placing 12 stones together, representing the unity of the 12 tribes of Israel. It was on that altar that God sent down fire and showed His glory. (1 Kings 18)
Living StonesThe stones that Elijah used did not possess life. We are now the living stones upon which Christ is building His church. (Matthew 16:18, 1 Peter 2:5) We have to come together in unity in order for the blessing of God to be released. However, unlike the stones that Elijah used, we must choose to come together to build the altar for God to send His glory again.
The blessing will not come through our preaching or singing. In fact, we often do these things while our hearts are far from him. What God wants is hearts whose meditations are near to Him, and the sign that our meditation is close to Him is when we love one another. (Psalms 104: 34, John 13: 35)
Prayer and FastingIn this spirit, we are entering into three days of prayer and fasting. We believe that if the Church of Ethiopia becomes unified then the blessing of the Lord will be released on the nation. We will be praying for this unity and that God would give the leadership of Beza a strategy as to how this can be accomplished. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
