As part of expanding investments in neighboring countries, NoC Djibouti has signed an agreement with a China Construction to significantly renovate and modernize a service station worth 1.3 million dollars on Wednesday (Nov. 03, 2021).

Minister of Energy and Natural Resource, H.E Yonis Ali Guedi, Minister of Interior, H.E Said Nouh and Ethiopian Ambassador to Djibouti, H.E Berhanu Tsegaye and scores of high level officials have attended the inaugural ceremony.

2021-11-05 08:52:49 Nyala Insurance has Paid Over 800,000 ETB for Mobile Phones Insurance

Eight months ago, in collaboration with Ethio-telecom and SZM Engineering PLC, Nyala Insurance has launched the first of its kind insurance product in Ethiopia and has so far compensated 250 people for lost and broken phones amounted to 800k birr.

According to Addis Zebye report, so far 10,000 customers are registered for “Le-Mobile” insurance packages. Further indicated that Nyala Insurance is working on a short-term plan to increase the number of mobile phone insurance users to reach between 50 to 100k.

By effecting a premium payment of one birr to one birr and fifty cents based on the package selected per day, any smartphone user can enter a contract with Nyala Insurance just by sending an ‘ok’ text message via 813. Direct premium payment will be from Ethio-telecom airtime.

BOA launched a voice-assisted ATMs that enable visually impaired people to access a variety of banking services. It works with a headset connected to the ATM that will guide customers through a voice-assisted manner to deliver the required service, and it requires no further assistance. The service includes cash withdrawal, money transfer, change passwords, print statements, and send money to Tele Birr. It is available in Amharic, English, Afaan Oromo and Tigrinya languages.

It allows users to access equally complete services in the language of their choice. Anyone with an Abyssinian bank card, other bank cards and international cards, such as a master card, visa card and China Union Pay card, can access the service.

Sheger 102.1FM radio aired that the two licensed banks are Ahadu Bank and Sinqe Bank.
Sheger heard the news from the National Bank of Ethiopia.

It is recalled that a directive has been issued since October 2, requiring banks to have a paid-up capital of 5 billion birr.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture has recently announced its plan to substitute imported wheat and rice by implementing the utilization of up-to-date agricultural technologies. Ethiopia has a total arable land of more than 70 million hectares, but it only cultivated 12 million hectares of land while the population engaged in agriculture is estimated to be 80 million.

Ethiopia plans to benchmark best practices and experiences to boost irrigation-based lowland wheat production and productivity. According to Esayas Lemma, Ministry of Agriculture Crop Development Director, in the coming years, attention will be given to promoting local and multinational investors' participation in the agricultural sector in order to increase production and productivity by providing incentives.

Ethiopia’s dollar bond dropped to record low after the US announced Ethiopia is revoked from AGOA privileges.

The 2024 bond fell by 2.3 cents in the dollar to 78.063 cents. Ethiopia’s only bond issue - $1 billion Eurobond, has declined more than 20 cents within a year.
