2021-02-27 18:39:30 Ibn Abī Ziyād said: My father advised me: “O my son, surround yourself with intelligent people and keep away from the foolish, for I have never sat with one except that I found a decrease in my own sense of reasoning afterwards.”

وقال ابن أبي زياد: قال لي أبي: يا بني الزم أهل العقل وجالسهم واجتنب الحمقى، فإني ما جالست أحمق فقمت، إلا وجدت النقص في عقلي.

أيها الناس: تعلموا العلم للعلم لتنالوا بركته وتجنوا ثمرته

Learn ʿilm to implement what you know and not to argue with it or merely pass through it.
تعلموا العلم للعمل لتعلموا به لا لتجادلوا به وتماروا به

Whoever seeks ʿilm to be foolish or just to go with the flow, will expose himself to Allah's wrath and reduce to lowly objectives.
فإن من طلب العلم ليماري به السفهاء أو يجاري به العلماء فقد عرض نفسه لعقوبة الله ونزل بها إلى الهدف الأسفل.

2021-02-25 17:15:50 ʿAwn al-Dīn Abū al-Mudhaffar b. Hubayrah said: From the tricks of al-Shayṭān is that he will make awthān fī al-maʿná (ie: idols - in meaning) for worship besides Allah such that if the truth (regarding something) becomes clear to someone, they will say: “That is not our maḏhab”, and they will blind-follow someone they honour, putting that thing (ie: the idol) above the truth.

وَقَالَ صَدْرُ الْوُزَرَاءِ عَوْنُ الدِّينِ أَبُو الْمُظَفَّرِ بْنُ هُبَيْرَةَ: إِنَّهُ مِنْ مَكَايِدِ الشَّيْطَانِ أَنْ يُقِيمَ أَوْثَانًا فِي الْمَعْنَى تُعْبَدُ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مِثْلَ أَنْ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْحَقُّ، فَيَقُولُ: هَذَا لَيْسَ بِمَذْهَبِنَا تَقْلِيدًا لِمُعَظَّمٍ عِنْدَهُ قَدْ قَدَّمَهُ عَلَى الْحَقِّ.

2021-02-24 17:35:27 Allah (Exalted be He) said about the Kursī: {His Kursī extends over the heavens and the earth} [2:255]
وأما الكرسي ففيه قوله تعالى: (وسع كرسيه السماوات والأرض) [البقرة: 255]

The Kursī is that which is in front of the ʿArsh;
والكرسي هو الذي بين يدي العرش

And it has been authentically reported that Ibn ʿAbbās said: “The Kursī is the place for the two Feet, and no one can tell how vast the ʿArsh is except Allah (Exalted be He).” as narrated in my book Mukhtaṣar Al-ʿUlū li ʿl-Ḏahabī #36.
وقد صح عن ابن عباس موقوفا عليه من قوله: " الكرسي موضع القدمين والعرش لا يقدر قدره إلا الله تعالى ". وهو مخرج في كتابي " مختصر العلو للذهبي " يسر الله طبعه (ا)

There are no authentic reports ascribable to the Prophet ﷺ regarding the Kursī besides his ﷺ statement: “The seven heavens in comparison to the Kursī are just like a ring thrown in a desert, and the greatness of the ʿArsh over the Kursī is like the greatness of that desert over that ring.”
ولم يصح فيه مرفوعا سوى قوله عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَام ُ: " ما السماوات السبع في الكرسي إلا كحلقة ملقاة بأرض فلاة وفضل العرش على الكرسي كفضل تلك الفلاة على تلك الحلقة ".

This is something which also invalidates interpreting the Kursī as “knowledge”,
وذلك مما يبطل أيضا تأويل الكرسي بالعلم.

And this interpretation is not an authentic report from Ibn ʿAbbās as I clarified in al-Ṣaḥīhah no. 109.
ولم يصح هذا التأويل عن ابن عباس كما بينته في " الصحيحة " (103) [الصحيح هو برقم (109) الصفحة 173، طبع المكتب الإسلامي]

2021-02-23 18:23:17 Is It Best For a Woman to Pray In Her House or In A Masjid Near Her House
«هل الأفضل للمرأة أن تصلي في بيتها أم في المسجد القريب منها.؟»

Questioner: “Is it best for a woman to pray in her house or in a masjid near her house?”
السائل: هل المرأة: أيهما أفضل صلاتها في البيت و لا في المسجد، إذا كان المسجد قريب عن البيت.مين الأفضل تصلي في البيت و لا في المسجد؟

The Shaykh: “It is best for her to pray in her house, unless there is a class or exhortation in the masjid from which the woman would benefit, then here the ruling switches:
الشيخ: الأفضل: أن تصلي في بيتها إلا إذا كان في المسجد درس أو وعظ تستفيد منه المرأة، فَهُون بْيَنْقَلب الحكم، يصير الأفضل:

It becomes best for her to pray in the masjid.
أن تصلي في المسجد،

But if there is just prayer (in the masjid), then (her praying) in the house is better.
أما إذا كان مجرد صلاة، ففي البيت أفضل

Meaning, if there is not anything in the masjid except the congregational prayer, then her praying in her house is better for her than her praying in her masjid,
يعني لا يوجد في المسجد إلا صلاة الجماعة فصلاتها والحالة هذه في بيتها أفضل لها من صلاتها في مسجدها،

Contrary to if there was a class or exhortation in the masjid, then her praying in the masjid is better for her.”
بخلاف ما إذا كان في المسجد درس أو وعظ فحينئذ صلاتها في المسجد أفضل لها.
