Russian oil exports shift to Asia

At the beginning of the year, most of Russia's oil was going to Europe: almost 2 million barrels per day (further in the text: a million barrels per day = mbd) of the total 3 and a little mbd (the rest - just over 1 mbd - went to Asia)

Now exports to Europe are down to about 1.5 mbd, and exports to Asia are close to 2 mbd

What's interesting: first, total exports grew, despite all the sanctions and restrictions (and prices went up too!). Secondly, in May and June a new miraculous export destination appeared - "unknown". And there is a suspicion that as exports to Europe fall, exports to the unknown will increase...

The number of the ultra-rich in different European countries

According to report Knight Frank 2022, in Russia there were (because the data for the report were mostly collected before the events in Ukraine, and they must have greatly affected the result) 6,238 ultra-rich (with a fortune over 30 million dollars)

This is by no means a record for European countries. France has more than 30 thousand of them, Germany has 28, and Great Britain has 25. Italy and Spain are also ahead of Russia in the number of the ultra-rich

At the same time, back in 2020 we had 5.6 thousand ultra-wealthy people - a very good growth. Which, apparently, can be considered completed for the near future...

Rise in commodity prices since the beginning of the year

Breaking all records - especially for energy commodities. Coal is now 69.3% more expensive than it was at the beginning of the year, U.S. gas is 54.6% more expensive, oil is 29.1% more expensive, and gas in Europe is 26.6% more expensive. And we'll highlight an unobvious but interesting point: coal has become more expensive than gas and oil.

In the general price increase ranking, the second most expensive item, between coal and gas in the U.S., is a non-energy commodity: wheat, which has increased 60% since the beginning of the year. Another food commodity in the top 10 is corn, which rose 23.9% compared to January

The remaining places at the top of the ranking are occupied by metals, among which nickel is the leader, +46.5% to the price since the beginning of the year

How the "special operation" in Ukraine changed the forecasts for inflation in different countries of the world

The rise in global inflation forecasts is even more impressive than the expected drop in GDP growth. The June OECD forecast in Turkey, for example, expects inflation of 72% for 2022 (versus the 23.9% expected in the previous, pre-war forecast)

In Argentina, prices are now forecast to rise by 60% over a year against 44.4%, in the Baltic states - in the range of 13.3% to 15.6% (against 3.2-6% in the December version of the forecast). Most Eastern European countries expect prices to grow by more than 10% for a year; other European and North American countries expect a 5% to 9% growth against the earlier forecast of 2-3%, and occasionally 4%.

How the "special operation" in Ukraine has changed the GDP growth rate forecasts of various countries around the world

According to a new June forecast by the OECD on the growth rates of major economies, Russia's GDP in 2022 will decrease by 10% - down from the expected 2.5% growth in December 2021, a drop of 12.7 p.p.

Germany's GDP growth rate is expected to be 2.2 p.p. lower than half a year earlier, France - 1.8 p.p., if we look at more detailed figures that in some Eastern European countries and the Baltics the fall is up to 3 p.p.

Outside Europe, the figures are lower, but also very significant. Japan's GDP growth rate, according to forecasts, will be 1.7 p.p. lower than previously expected; India - 1.2 p.p., China - 0.7 p.p.

The transatlantic slave trade in the 16th-19th centuries
In all, more than 10 million slaves were taken from Africa between 1501 and 1866. Most of them went to the Americas-just not to the North, but to the South!

4.7 million slaves ended up in Brazil and about the same number in various Caribbean countries (the largest number in Jamaica, about a million). In the United States, during those almost four hundred years, "only" 389,000 people came directly from Africa. In Europe, by the way, only 9,000

What are Western countries seeking by tightening sanctions against Russia?

According to the majority (74%) of Russians, the main goal of Western countries is to weaken and humiliate Russia. Restoration of geopolitical balance as the goal of sanctions is mentioned by 12% of Russians, while only 8% of Russians consider stopping military operations in Ukraine.

And since the start of the sanctions in 2014, this has been the average position of the majority of Russians. The stopping of hostilities as a goal of the sanctions was earlier mentioned less (from 4% to 6% of respondents), while the weakening and humiliation of Russia was also mentioned less (the minimum was in the summer of 2015 - 66%). Compared to 2015, only the share of Russians who believe that the sanctions are imposed to restore the geopolitical equilibrium has changed significantly: it fell from 21% to 12%.

The level of the world's oceans has been rising steadily over the past 30 years.

At an average of 3.5 millimeters per year. It seems a little, but from 1993 to 2021 it rose by more than 10 centimeters. And that's a lot.
