On this day in 1685 the Solway Martyrs were executed. The gravestones above are theirs and other Covenanters executed in the area.

The Wigtown Martyrs or Solway Martyrs, Margaret Maclauchlan and Margaret Wilson were Scottish Covenanters who were executed by Scottish Episcopalians in 1685 in Wigtown, Scotland, by tying them to stakes on the town's mudflats and allowing them to drown with the rising tide.

During "The Killing Times" of the Covenanters in the 17th century, Margaret McLachlan, an elderly woman of around 63, and Margaret Wilson, around 18 years of age, were sentenced to be tied to stakes in the tidal channel of the River Bladnoch near its entrance to Wigtown Bay to be drowned by the incoming tide. The ploy was that the younger woman might be persuaded to change her mind after watching the older woman drown. The strategy failed and both died. This execution was carried out by dragoons under the command of Major Windram in the presence of Sir Robert Grierson of Lag.

The public enquiry into Sheku Bayoh's death in Kirkcaldy starts today in Edinburgh.

Bayou died after being restrained by police during an incident in 2015. His family claim it was his race that led to his death.

On the night Bayoh died he had taken MDMA and the drug Flakka which is notorious for making people violent. Bayou had been at a friend's house but had been asked to leave due to his aggressive behaviour. He then went to his home, armed himself with a knife and roamed the streets. The police were called and he allegedly assaulted at least one officer before they used pepper spray and batons to restrain him. It is also a documented fact that people on Flakka are very hard to restrain. He died after being restrained.

The family have tried a make a martyr of him, claiming his race led to his death and not his violent actions and drug use. But this man was not a victim of racism but of his own actions. He is not a racial martyr; death in police custody is quite rare and nearly all victims are White.

On this day in 1037 the battle of Loudon Hill was fought in Ayrshire between a force of Scots troops under the command of Robert the Bruce and an English army under Aymer de Valence, Earl of Pembroke that outnumbered Bruces men five to one.Bruce and the Scosts forces won the battle.

Though he had previously defeated an English force at Glen Trool ,this was his first major victory against a large English Army.

The plauque above sits at the summit of Loudon Hill to mark his victory.

On this day in 1860 J.M. Barrie was born in Kirriemuir.

Sir James Matthew Barrie, 1st Baronet, OM was a Scottish novelist and playwright, best remembered as the creator of Peter Pan. He was born and educated in Scotland and then moved to London, where he wrote a number of successful novels and plays. There he met the Llewelyn Davies boys, who inspired him to write about a baby boy who has magical adventures in Kensington Gardens (first included in Barrie's 1902 adult novel The Little White Bird), then to write Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up, a 1904 West End "fairy play" about an ageless boy and an ordinary girl named Wendy who have adventures in the fantasy setting of Neverland.

Although he continued to write successfully, Peter Pan overshadowed his other work, and is credited with popularising the name Wendy. Before his death, he gave the rights to the Peter Pan works to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, which continues to benefit from them.

Scotland's north east branch were out early Sunday morning for a fitness session on the beach.

After a hard morning of sand sprints and weight training, the team headed into town for a well deserved breakfast.

Last year Glasgow saw scenes of mob intimidation when Home office workers attempted to carry out their legal Duty of arresting illegal Immigrants.

This time a mob of over 100 formed in Edinburgh after being alerted by Text, twitter and social media that a Home Office immigration team was at work .

They jumped on the Home office teams vans, blocked them from moving and generally formed a large threatening mob. As happened in Glasgow it appears that Police Scotland stood back and let this happen.Even though interfering with the work.of an Immigration officer is an offence that can be punished with a large fine or a jail sentence.

Politicians in Holyrood were yet again supportive of this illegal mob action. Scotland is in danger of becoming a haven for illegal Immigrants where mob rule of the left is allowed to happen and even applauded by some sections of Scotland's elite.

The Green Party appears to be the new home for all of Scotlands political misfits. They have just had their first "Trans" councillor elected in Glasgow to represent that stunningly good example of how multiculturalism is making Scotland a better place, Govanhill.

We are sure he will fit in there quite wel..though of course like many people who speak highly of how great the Govanhill area and its residents are, he chooses not to live there but in Glasgows leafy west end.

The Green Party are seen as happy treehuggers but are in fact a party full of misfits and people with radical ideas that would destroy our Nation even faster than the SNP are doing.

Don't be fooled by their happy eco warrior appearance given how well they are doing picking up votes across the UK, they are going to be a dangerous force in the future and will not only push for greater green policies but also for more and more radical policies on LGBT "rights", sex education, immigration and abortion amongst other radical ideas.

On this day in 1933 E E Fresson, who had established Highland Airways the month before inagurated the first passenger flights between Inverness, Wick and Thurso. The statue of him above stands outside Inverness Airport

Captain Ernest Edmund "Ted" Fresson, OBE was a British engineer and aviation pioneer.

He was awarded the first contract for domestic airmail in the UK on 29 May 1934, flying between Aberdeen and Orkney.

During the Second World War, he advised the Air Ministry and Admiralty on where to build its airfields in Scotland: he is credited with building the first tarmac runway built in the UK, at RNAS Hatston, Orkney. His airline was absorbed into the war-time Scottish Airways, and into the nationalised British European Airways Corporation after the war: he continued to work in the airline's management until he was let go in March 1948. In retirement, he continued to fly charter passengers across northern Scotland
